  • How practical is nightmare bows?

I have a forager that can forage all the grease I need from POI and a tinkerer for making the bow cams, nightmare silk is a easy drop and can get 3 stacks in very little time.
Then is the issue with the nightmarewood bow staffs and innovative bolts/gears from POI. I never farmed them, so dont really know thier drop rate. Can these be "farmed" to get me to 295 in a short order of time on my soon to come stretch to 300?

I really can't tell what level you are. Your sig says 30, but you are also talking about going to the Planes. My opinion is that you would be better off doing PoR fletching. You can forage and pick up ground spawn and really only need to kill horses for their hooves if you like. It is what I did to get to 300 but I had the advantage of being level 70.

If you can get the silks easy, the staves and Innovative Bolts/gears will not be a problem. drop rate on the staves wasn't too horrendous when I was hunting in PoNightmare and the droprate on the innovative stuff wasn't too horrendous either.
Don't throw out the PoR path though, it is a good path as well and in some cases the final combine is not the most difficult. (Oh nm, you are on Tunare, completely avoid the PoR path, them sticks are mine )

If you can get the silks that easy - sell 'em to tailors and use the proceeds to buy branches. Most servers I'd guess you can probably get significantly more than 1 skillup chance worth of branches for what people'd pay for 2 nightmare silks...

That is a very good point. On Bert silks generally sell for almost twice what the branches do. Frankly if you're willing to forage in PoI for the grease, I think it would be easier to forage branches, and kill horses or buy hooves in the bazaar as you need them. I personally never had much luck with PoP bows, I think I might have made 30 total between 250 and 300.

I make a lot of plane of water bows, and try to buy grease in the bazaar. It's a lot cheaper than buying the cam parts for the treant stuff. The bows are excellent tribute, and if I price them at a medium cost people will come buy them in bulk to max their guild tribute.

It's nice because I have regura (however it's spelled) claws coming out of my ears.

I don't know if I can keep this up from 292 to 300 though, will see.

As far as hooves, never seen any in the bazaar and I have seen one drop. I am not sure where you are getting hooves from in a short amount of time.

Enchanted Unicorn in Eldarr Forest zone (Prophesy of Ro) drop Horse Hoof and the LQ Horse Skin needed for fletching. Also, they drop Horse Meat used in a high level baking combine if IRC? They are about a lvl 72(?) creature. I do not know if there is a faction hit of any sort for killing them.

The four horses in Ruins of Takish'Hiz (sp) can drop Hooves and Hides of varying quality. The Unicorns in Elddar are the only source of meat for those not flagged for Theater of Blood, they have no faction hits. Each hoof also provides enough laminate for 10 combines.

The addition of the Sunshard line of combines opens up a new possible path for fletching with the top tier fletched bow, but it requires jewel craft or tinkering to make the large conduit core, and the Sunshard Ore will probably be prohibitively expensive given that it can also be used for smithing and tailoring combines.

Well, the long stretch is soon to start on my mage, followed by my drakkin.
Mage ATM only at 224 skill. Figure once I knock fletching out of the way, I'll finish brewing for master artisan title. So PoR bows are the way to go huh?

Is it true what I hear that fletching bows yields a high skill-up chance then arrows? If that is the case, I will start directly to 282 (or was it 288) making them instead of farming/buys condensed stuff, short of what little stockpile I have now.

Nope. There's no bonus on skillups for bows. The benefit of PoR bows over other bows is because you have 2 high trivial combines per bow, ergo, 2 skillup chances.

Treants in Goru'kar Mesa are good for drops, I would go out there with the laminates and bow strings and all my tools, so I could make complete bows as I got branches.

If IRC the branches stack to 10 and when you run them through the laminator you get 2 pieces per branch which also only stack to 10... you double the number of slots you need. As far as running them up out in Mesa thats fine if your willing to drop them on the ground but if you can sell them to a NPC merchant you can make some of you plat back for the string... but it is whatever works for the individual.

Sorry, wasn't very clear. I meant I take the laminating adhesive, strings, etc. out there. And I usually did it in batches of 50 or so bows, so I'd have 50 adhesives, 50 bow strings, and all the tools. I could turn branches into laminates and directly into bow staffs and bows as soon as they dropped. Then I'd carry my 45 or so successes back to CR to sell and restock.
