Re-string a Bow

I read in an old fletching guide that it was possible to re-string a bow. The bow (hemp) was placed in the kit, with a silk string, for example. The combine would now be a bow (silk).
I tried this, and got the message this is not valid. (Nov 17, 2006).

Maddoc removed all the re-string combines as it was decided they were basically worthless and like less than 5% of the people had even bothered to try them.
