where are folks getting lots of spiderling silk for shimmering steel bow string combines? the few noob zones i checked didn't seem to have a good drop rate (like 1 silk in 10 spiderlings or more). the bazaar has none. any suggestions? the only threads in the tailoring forum are 2+ years old, so i question their currency.

more info: the 2 spiders in the brownie fort in lfay seem to drop silks reliably, although there are only two. if you have something else to do and thus don't mind waiting on the spawn rate, it's an okay source. at lvl 70, if i sit right on top of the spiders, the two brownie guards at the gate don't aggro (and nothing else in the fort aggros at 70). i could wish for more spiderlings with this drop rate, though...

    thanks,

    Spiderling Silks

The best place I found for spiderling silk is Rathe Mountains at the Gukta camp (froglocs). Domestic Hatchilings - yellow and black - drop up to 6 spiderling silks. Crab Spiderlings - brown - drop up to 3 spiderling silks. They have only the old spiderling drop table, so you won't waste time getting quest silk that is worthless for fletching.

WARNING!! GUKTA AREA HAS FACTION, check faction from a safe distance before you run through the center of the camp.

The fastest route is to take the Gukta stone in POK, it is in the good area near Rivervale.

I like Feerrott (spelled wrong I am sure) around the druid rings. Maybe not necessarily the greatest but there is a seemingly endless supply of spidies there. I just DC me a pet and have at it. It's pretty mindnumbing, but what tradeskill farming isn't?

I hadn't tried Gukta yet, but I remember what a joy Innothule was while the frogs owned it.

In the mean time, I've been slaughtering everything that moves in Everfrost just outside Halas. I find that I can kill everything from just west of the PoK book to the path that leads to Halas in almost exactly the time it takes respawns to start.

This area is only a shadow of what it used to be like for spiderling silk. Back in the day I could get 200 of them in just over an hour. The implementation of the Ogre newbie armor quest and the addition of the associated drops on the spiders and spiderlings loot tables put an end to that. That being said, this is still one of the best areas to get quantities of spiderling silk. It will just take longer.

I agree. Last night I just went around the druid ring and killed everything for about an hour and got two and a half stacks of silk. Not too bad. It's one area where spiders also drop spiderling silks, not spider silk.

Feerott is where I went to get all the spiderling silk I needed to level 2 fletching tophies. Not only do the spiderlings drop it, but the spiders as well (hopefully Ngreth doesn't see this and fix that little bug). On weekends before the coffee had kicked in, I'd head there for a couple of rounds of spawns. I'd average about a stack of spiderling silk per spawn (I'd round everything up, then AE it).

Second choice would be Everfrost in the newbie area by the book. Spiderlings aren't quite as plentiful, still a fair number of them.

I like the tombs area in the Field of Blood. lots of spiderlings, and you dont have to worry about other mobs or guards. Just run into the underground tombs, hit them and AE when you get a bunch... or just hit them one by one till they pop.

Yep, while I was exp'ing my lil cleric in Mesa I discoverered that uppon death some of the mesa spiders will spawn a clutch of lil spiderlings (4-6 approximately). It doesn't happen after every kill. Possibly every 3rd or 4th mesa spider spawned spiderlings on dieing. Since they were red cons to my little cleric we were not exactly mowing through them like grass and didn't get a large sample. Your results might vary from mine.

The Hollows newbie yard, just outside the city, has an abundance of spiderlings that drop a staggering amount of silk. Just levelling up my little scaly necromancer, and checking the vendors every day or so, I wound up with 8 stacks of Silk Thread banked and ready for Padding.

I think munwin is referring to Field of Bone, newbieland for Cabilis. The Cabilis stone in PoK sends you to this zone. And those tombs are a nice place to look for spiderlings.

One of my favorite places to farm for spiderling silks is West Karana. My reason is that each spiderling can drop up to five or so silks. Being a tracker is a bonus here. Killing the other mobs in the zone, particularly the western end, will help replenish the spiderling population.

Do you mean spiders? Hunted there for several levels and never saw a spiderling.. but lots and lots of spiders of all kinds.

West Karana is my favorite zone for spiderling silks as well, but I always send my ranger. Big zone + little spiders makes it hard to locate them otherwise. But they do drop up to 6 or so silks from one kill.
