  • Elddar Forest ground spawns

After spending 3 days mapping ground spawns in The Elddar Forest, I have concluded that the wandering trees "drop" items at any of the spots where they stop during their wanderings. There are also spots inside the big log that have been mentioned elsewhere, but otherwise the 100ish ground-spawn locations appear to be the same spots that the trees stop.

I don't know if this helps anyone for finishing fletching, but I thought I'd share it.

It has been mentioned in several locations that some of the spawn locations are static spots which also match up with spots where the mobs stop at occationally when they roam the zone.

Many of the other spots are not static at all, but have a random area they spawn in, they are pretty easy to identify if you carefully map each spawn point before you pick up an item.

The branches are rare ground spawns in all places except inside the log, although in my experience the closer you are to the log, the better the chance to get a branch spawn.

I may be imagining things, but it seems to me that the ground spawn is much rarer than before the last patch. Admittedly, I have only occasionally checked for them a few times so it may just be that someone beat me there.

other than 2 at each end of the log (or nearabys if not in the log) and upto 4 in the hollow dip between the log and zone-in, I havent been able to find any others. Ive run all over that side of the map for last few weeks and not found a single one.
The spawns at the log seem to be on a fixed timer, as I have been to grab them before I head to work and again just as I get home everyday for the last 3 weeks.
Hopefully 2 more weeks of spawns and TV foraging will get me to 300 (291 right now)

          More info

After another two days of being in Elddar Forest, the ground spawns appear to spawn where even the horses and other mobs stop. The ground spawns do not spawn randomly at just any spot... they all spawn on the pathing routes and at spots where creatures pause. In addition, up to this point I have only mapped them being on the western half of the zone... but I only have 61 spots of the 100ish Ngreth mentioned mapped so far.

            it is not hundredish spots...

            it is hundredish ground spawns...

each path is from 7 to 100 points... (I tended to choose paths with more than 20 points.)

there was definitely overlap though (apples and pomegranates on same paths for example)

So many hundreds of possible spots...

EDIT: But then you are probably ONLY looking at branches... in which case, yeah, probably only a hundredish spots...

I've consistently only found apples and pomegranates (other than the guaranteed spots at the log). Are the branches much, much rarer than the fruits?

Yes. The branches are much less common than the fruits. The branches seem to be random spawns on some of those fruit spawns 9vice all I would have said prior to the previous post from the ogre)

In my expereince the closer you are to the tree the more likely the chance to find a branch.

I find that the pit where the couple treants wander and between there and the log are the best places to find the ground spawns.

God bless server restarts (I picked the right day by accident to be working from home so I managed to log in right when servers came up and got 10 total branches)!

                      Nice.

For those that have mapped the ground spawn, are most GS consistient (ie always pomegranate here, always green apple there?) or all random?

Random in my experience, I have looted pomegranites where I have looted branches in the past.

Of note, maybe it was just because it was a couple hours lumped together, but the forage rate for branches seemed better in the Eldarr instanced tree then the forest in general.

My experience was that it was random, but it worked on a Common (apple), Uncommon (pomegranite), rare (branch) system. Also, only the big trees "drop" branches (on their pathing), the tree stumps just drop the fruits. There seem to be unrelated static spawns too, but the only ones that I ever saw pop branches were the ones near the big hollow log.

Sometimes the branches spawn "under" the ground or in objects. I have found branches sticking 1/4 or less out of the ground. I have also found them underneath apples and pomegranates. I pick them up and there is a small dark brown patch where there should be grass. I have also found them sticking out of the sides of trees, the log and the inclines of the hollow area and behind the log.

After a server reset, I have picked up as many as 17 in one run and as few as 6 so I suspect that there may be more than we are aware of and it all depends on when they spawn after a reset.

I'm also convinced there's something wrong with the "geometry" of the branches relative to the ground in Elddar, at least as the EQ client sees it. I once foraged a branch with my hotkey, which also autoinventories -- I saw it on my screen - then the /autoinventory kicked in and it fell to the ground, since my inventory was already full. No problem, I thought, I'll just look down and pick it up -- I got a shock -- it was nowhere to be seen (even though I hadn't moved; it was in the 'pit' to the west of the zone where the 2 roaming treants and the "guard wolf" are). I frantically started clicking on the ground, and magically the branch re-appeared on my cursor... To test the thought I had, I dropped one of the green apples I had also collected, and it was about halfway embedded in the ground -- to about the same height as the branch is thick. (I did /bug this, but I am not sure whether that would have gotten sent to Ngreth or not).

So I strongly believe that the ground level (as far as the servers are concerned) is lower than that which is seen by the clients, and we are missing at least some of the treant drops and ground spawned branches as a result.
