  • Fletching past 202 - sorry for the dumb question. :)

Hello. I've been away from EQ for over a year now, and haven't tradeskilled in a long time. It's frustrating and expensive and can be annoying. Be that as it may, I spend more time /LFG, running to zones and hoping for an opening, etc. than I ever used to, so I figured I could take my 203 fletching skill and work on it some more. Please be gentle with me, as I've played EQ for about 9 months total since 2001.

So, can someone tell me the quickest way to get my fletching from about 203 (I think) to 300 and above? Oh, and replace "quickest" with "cheapest".

I should mention I'm a 67 Half-Elf Ranger who worships Tunare (on the Bristlebane server). I have a measly 25 AAs, none in tradeskilling. I do have a Geerlok Planing Tool. Is it still true that I can't improve fletching with cultural, since I worship Tunare?

But with all the expansions that have come out, I'm not sure anymore what the best path to skill-ups would be. I do have most of my other skills in the 100-150 range (am through about step 6 of my Coldain Shawl, IIRC). I still have some Condensed Acrylia in my bank, and wonder if that's the way to continue? I'll have to look that up again, because I haven't taken out my fletching kit once in the last month or so I've been back. (not true, I used it for part of my 1.5 epic which I've done everything now, up to the raids).

Other things that may help determine - I do not have any other toons to speak of (to help with enchanting or tinkering, etc.) I do have a fairly low WIS for a Ranger, so need to buy some fletching gear, I guess.

I do have some money in the bank (got lucky on a couple of rolls - heheh) - about 70K, I think (how in the WORLD do some of you get hundreds of thousands or MILLIONS? I've been saving for the last month). But my gear is so crappy, I keep saving it to hopefully upgrade a slot or two. If I have to farm, I can do that whilst /LFG, so that's ok.

Thanks so much and looking forward to any help.

GOD arrows to 227. using chunks of taelosian rock & chunks of Discord rock
acrylia arrows to 268. Condensed shadow is the easiest.
    POR bows/staffs etc to 300

As stated above, GoD arrows to 227. Farm the chunk of taelosian rock in Natimbi. May not be any xp depending on your level, but turepta, hynid, stonemite and reef crustacean are all fear-able using Panic Animal.

Acrylia arrows to 268 (unless the triv has been boosted and nobody told me). Acrylia Caverns for your acrylia (headshot will make this much easier), and the caves in Shadeweaver's Thicket for the chunks of condensed shadow.

Shaped Shadewood Compound to 282 (storebought, expensive, but still cheaper than the parts needed for the combines to get past here).

Various PoR bows, Elemental bows and Nightmare bows, class 7 dragorn drakespike arrows, shaped bazu compound bows. All of these when you can find the parts.

I'm in the same boat (Tunare-worshipping half-elf), and very, very casually skilling up has taken me about a month per point. I'm at 285 using the various methods in the last line. I don't think I've ever had the patience to pile up more than 10 combines or so at once.

      Good luck,
      C

Just a few points - you mention that you dont have very high wis. Remember that fletching uses either wis or DEX to calculate skill-up frequency so, with wunshi (shaman dex buff and cap raiser), it may be easier for you to raise dex.
Start collecting ingredients now and try not to be tempted to use the PoR stuff before you hit 282 etc. as the higher your skill, the more expensive the skill-ups.
When you start making PoR bows the forage AA (can forage 2 items in 1 go)will be a big help as will fixed invis (not sure if rangers get this AA) for looking for ground spawns.
70k will not get you very far unfortunately so try to start saving more pp. I have only made money on TS's for a long time now so I cant give you much advise on where to hunt for cash drops. It may be useful to check the buyers on your server and farm specifically for them.
        Good luck.

Actually, fletching uses WIS, INT or DEX, whichever is higher.

Yes, but as the OP stated that he had rather low Wis for a ranger and was going to get fletching gear, there seemed no point in mentioning int
