  • Fletching skillup sucks...

I had farmed lots of oak treant branches (and some cheap branches in bazaar) and spend almost 20k on shimmering steel threads (at about 53pp a pop ) and spent over an hour making the bows.

What did I get? one lousy skillup over 350 combines and only 1 skillup to 283.

I just want to reach out and strangle RNG

    No, please!

OMG, you've got to be joking!
I was hoping about 200-300 Straight Oak TB would take me from 282 to 291. I cannot imagine much more...

Not joking, just really bad luck with RNG. Under normal circumstances I should have gotten closer to 10 skillups not one from that run.

Just another reminder to get Wunshi if possible, 450 Dex really helps with the skill-ups.

The 20k spent on the thread is not a total loss since the bows have decent vendor sale value. The probable net cost was only a few thousand.

Aye, if I remember correctly, they sell for 96pp and change, so there's a net loss of roughly 10pp per combine (53pp x2 for threads).

I averaged about 1 skill per 55 attempts from 283-291 (my skill-up list is at home), so 500ish branches will get you close.

Wunshi, the works, plus tribute for a grand total of 415 dex. 300 fletching combines last night... fletching still at 283 /cry

Did 27 shimmering ukun hides for master DoN armor: 3 skillups in tailoring.

I'm averaging about 1 skillup per 80 combines since skill 290 (am at 296 now). And I'm a shaman, I use ancestral aid in the guild hall to get 540 dex/str. Yes, 540, not a typo.

I did about 85 combines of various PoR bows and total of 2 skill ups. I was hoping for more like 20-25 per skill up but I guess it's not to be. Back to farming spiderling silk. It's getting pretty expensive to do this, specially I am buying the branches. I was at 410 dex/wis when I did this.

Last night, short run got me stuff for 10 combines. 3 skillups. RNG is a fickle :P

660 total combines to get from 283 to 286, 1 skillup per 220 is bad run. I did get a good deal today in bazaar, branches for 400 each (usually 1k each) so hopefully I'll get a couple more skillups to offset the bad run.

I always thought my 280 INT will be a liability when I do Fletching (difficulty 4). Thankfully, even without a single stat buff, it only took me 616 combines from 282 to 300.

Advanced Calculator says, for a 95% success item, it'll take 822 combines for 280 INT, 658 combines for 350 INT and 575 combines for 400 INT.

Very glad that I gained from the estimated average. And a word of encouragement to those with under 300 INT/WIS. There is hope. It can happen.

Fletching can also use your Dexterity skill when counting the prime stat. Just a good thing to note for non casters.

It is even good for casters too, since there are many buffs for the 61+ crowd that can raise DEX including Wunshi which raises your stat cap by 85.

A very nice boost if you have a shaman in your guild is to gather your supplies and head for the Guild Hall. Get an Ancestral Aid in addition to your Wunshi (Ancestral Aid is very short duration outside the guildhall).

So fletching uses DEX and your prime stat, in my case INT? Or am I reading this wrong? Fletching has been flying up for me, and I have 200+ DEX and 370 INT. Thought I was getting very lucky.
