  • 288 to 300 fletching on PoR combines?

PoR fletching doesn't make much sense to me. Laminates... too tough for us oggrs to figgur out.

I'm gettin some treant sticks from stuff I kill in por. I wanna get from 288 to 300 fletching. I'm not a wood elf. I'm not a follower of karana. All my tradeskills are 288+ and I have a budget of 1 mil plat for tradeskills at the moment.

I'm still trying to catch up on DoN and DoD so I haven't explored PoR much yet.

I've bought out the bazaar of girplan feathers, bazu bones, and I have a huge stack of nightmarewood stuff ready to go if I can ever find a forager to get me some grease and a tinker to make me some bow cams.... so kinda stuck other than PoR stuff.

Anyone have some useful tips on PoR fletching?

well, with POR you don't have to be a forager or wait on a forager for the parts needed. treant parts are groundspawns. Look for things that look like broom handles on the ground. they will have names like *fallen xxxx treant xxx*

tinkerers make the cams for the new bows, so unless you have access to a tink, you just need to check Baz.

the rollers are smithed.. and pretty low.. (barely over 100 I think) as is the blade needed.

all of the parts are much easier to get than POP bow parts, and cheaper than drakeXXX arrows if you are buying compoinents in tha baz.

there's a fairly decent skill up path available now.

Ok bought a geerlok laminating device, a couple rollers, and a laminating knife. Bought the two horse hoof in the bazaar, and know to keep an eye out for them.

Anyone got a link to maps or /loc of groundspawns? I'll keep an eye out for them now, thank goodness something for non-foragers LOL.

Maps won't do tons of good except for the ones in a fairly isolated area. The rest spawn on wander routes so can spawn on 15 to 100 possible spots depending on the route they drop on.

          Dear ogre:-)
Think of laminates as a halfling sandwitch. Two pieces of bread and a halfling in the middle and you mash em together:-)
There are treant branches groundspawns in Eddar forest but you gotta get there early or somebody will swipe em:-P
P.S. Your also gonna need LQ Horse hides to make glue with:-)

Ok cool, good to know.... that's a smart way to do it then... I'll just wander around and look for them.

MMM.... halfling sandwiches.... YOUCH!!! what'd ya have to go an' hit me with the rollin' pin for!!! Dang why didn't ya tell me Denmom was behind me!

Eddar Forest eh? Hmm... me not know dis zone, no like dem tree hugger types. I'll look around an' see if I can figure it out. Any other zones with ground spawns, or just this one?

I got one LQ horsie hide. Checked bazaar and they were 4k+ for horsie hides, so figured I'd kill some horsies to make glue. I presume that you can use a skinning knife on HQ horsie hides to make 'em into da LQ horsie hides?!?

Thanks for the tips everyone, it helps.

Ground spawns aren't the only way to get the branches, they also drop off the treant mobs in Ruins of Takish Hiz. The four roamers are the easiest to kill, just make sure you pull them away from the other roamers or you might get an add. The gang of treants around the named treant are harder to kill, you'll need harmony or a feign puller of some sort.

Horse hooves drop a lot in Devastation, off the horse mobs (naturally). I haven't seen many LQ horse skins, got 1 in 6 kills in Takish Hiz (only three horsies there but they respawn fast).

If your goal is skill ups, and not salable products, you can do things a little differently to maximize skill up chances.
                    a) forget about the composite laminate bows- you need 5 times as many horse hooves to make these, and you also need the lq horse skin (BTW there is no skinning knife combine to make a lower skin).
                    b) forget about compound bows, the recurves are already 300+ trivial, and you don't have to worry about buying cams then.

What you want to make is:
348- Desiccated Treant Laminate Recurve Bow Staff
which is a sub combine for
308- Desiccated Treant Laminated Recurve Bow
                    and
322- Oak Treant Laminate Recurve Bow Staff
which is a sub combine for
302- Oak Treant Laminated Recurve Bow
Each of these laminate staffs takes 1.5 branches to make the 3 required laminates. So you get 2 chances to skill up for every 1.5 branches (1 1/3 skill up chances per branch).
This only uses 2 of the 3 types of branches, with the third type you could make:
302- Supple Treant Laminate Recurve Bow Staff
                    sub combine for
308- Supple Treant Laminated Compound Bow
                    But this will require cams.
Supple laminates end up being the rare laminate because the composite bows use twice as many. So your other choices are stockpile the supple till you are ready to make composite bows, or find someone already making composite bows and trade them your supple for their oak or dessicated.
Best bet for a non forager is just to go to Takish. Kill the 4 wandering treants, kill the 3 horses, and check for ground spawns.
If you want to get ground spawns in Elddar, first check the hollow log. There are 2 spawns in each end. They are on a very long respawn (6-8 hours or more..longer than I have been in the zone at any one time). The rest of the ground spawns are on the same paths that the wandering treants take. It's not really that hard to map them(the treant paths). Just follow a treant with auto map on. You will likely get bored out of your mind searching for the ground spawns anyhow, so the mapping is a bit of a distraction from the tedium.

OK, that's a lie, you will curse the vile treants. They like to stop, stand there for a minute, walk forward for 10 sec, stop, then turn around going over the path you have already mapped. Oh, and don't forget to save your map before you camp, because you will not be happy the next day if your mapping work is gone.

                      Bobaten,

This is exactly the kind of advice and explanation I was looking to get. It helps me a ton to know that I don't need to buy the bow cams if I'm only going to do skill ups. And to know that there's three kinds of laminates in different families. And what makes sense to make with each of them.

I will probably mostly just buy up everything that's even close to reasonably priced in the bazaar.

I don't plan to make any bows to sell, just to get the "master artisan" title is my goal. I will make one bow to give to a friend's ranger, but that'll be after I've already skilled up.

                      Thanks,
                      Bolas

PS I'm shocked that there's no recipe for skinning knife and HQ/MQ horse hides, and that the HQ/MQ horse hides don't work for fletching.

                          Mentioned before... this is purposeful

The LQ Horse skins are a limiter. And I need a limiter on how often the composite bow staves are made.

If I triple the amount of skins that can be used, that actually increases the amount of composite bow staves that can be made by way to much.

They are ??? Hmm guess I must have been extremely lucky with the drops sofar then. My experience is that if I go hunting for horse hoofs that I will get several LQ horse skins before I have the number of hoofs I want.

Why would that be? If it is to limit availablity of the bows than it is currently already to late for that cause everyone that wants has one or can get one from the gaziljon that are lurking on Fletchers. Another option would be to control the economy but SoE sofar always stated that economy was entirely a players issue.

Definitely going to have to check out Tak, cause Elddar is a no no for me as a cleric. Not having fixed invis trying to follow any of the 20 or so wandering treants, with those velkator size ogres running all near the treants was the death of me more than once so far.

And with the incredibly long respawn on the fallen tree, I ended up with zero ground spawns so far out of a few hours in the zone.
