  • Javelins

DoDH introduces some nice new javelins, which are thrown weapons using the throwing skill. There are 8 types and all are player made. I will not spoil all the details, but the top 2 are very nice. Basically they are the same, except one has a trade-off for extra range and the other a trade-off for extra damage. They are very easy to make as well and are not expensive.

The shafts are made via fletching and the heads are made via smithing. The final combine can be done either via smithing or fletching. The highest trivial on the highest javelins, the Runic Steel War Javelin and the Runic Steel Longflight Javelin is only 135. The yields on the sub combines and final combines are good as well (5's on sub, 10 or 20 on finals). So, from 1 set of raw materials you can either make 100 lower quality or 50 higher quality javelins.

Rogue rejoice, finally a high-damage thowing weapon with stats!
Makes a pretty nice range slot stat item as well, for many people.

Nice items, but it's kinda sad to see cheaply made items have better stats than practically any bow...

Not yet =P err at least I didn't see it. I had the stat windows half off the bottom of the screen so I could see all of it and type the post at the same time. I will check when I next log in. I see on other items it is posted above the weight (for non-augments), in which case, there would have been no required or recommended level, but again, I'll double check later.

I am unsure about stack amount. I can't test it now because the vendors are no longer in pok, and the ones in CC do not sell the metal needed for the heads. If I can find it again, I'll test it.

The shaft parts are store-bought. The heads are made from new trade-skilled metal which isn't currently in the game, and I have no idea how the base metal is made (I was unable to find any book about the base metal, but there is a book that tells one how to turn the base metal into the metal which is used for the heads).

stackable by 100's according to today's patch, that's just crazy, but I like it.

curious to see if they are tagged as piercing, in which case they could be used to trigger old-world poisons via throwing from short ranges, if equippable in primary too...supposedly that works with rusty daggers. I have yet to try it.

That's the whole point, isn't it. To use the throwing skill you need two slots (ranged and ammo) and therefore you have lost the stats from your former ranged item (for melees, mostly a bow). Now, finally, even when using throwing, one can keep up stats-wise.

Yikes, so did you actually try to throw them and you got the out of ammo message?

Per post on Monkly-Business.com they will fit in the ammo slot even though it's not shown.

probably not intended to be primary slot equippable because it would trivialize many daggers for rogue progression....so....old-world poison activation at short range idea with javelins is probably a bust.
