  • Grats Gigantous?

Looking at his authentic Magelo profile, looks like GigantuousOfPovar also just made 300 fletching (despite being non-druid/ranger/karana). If so, can I offer my genuine grats!

I saw you had hit 2099 yesterday, so I knew you were close.

Funny thing is, its you who kept me going. I watched your progress both here, and via your Magelo profile. When I was in the middle of my horrendous run at 299, I almost gave up. Then I saw you were only one away too, and it was just what I needed for the last push with another run of 100 GM Trophy combines.

I'm just sorry that you missed out on the true prize, being the first to hit the 2100 club. I know how fast you maxed all your other skills, and you were a good week ahead of me, and pretty much all others in the field. If you had not been robbed by fletching, I know you would have been the very first to hit 2100. So I offer my grats, my thanks, and my commiserations that a true leviathan of the tradeskill world was cheated of their rightful first by virtue of being the wrong class and deity.

Well..I am just happy I got it done and still have my sanity hehe. I still have 2 titles first barbarian and first warrior on all servers and but I think the most important thing all of us Artisans have, on my server and other servers, is that people like yourself, who watching others like me, strive and conquer an almost unconquerable goal, which kept them going.

I am not bitter about having 300 in 6 tradeskills and 282 in Fletching 9 days after last expansion. I have grown past that.

We also feel gratified by the amount of people, whom we have affected, (in a good way) by helping them increase their tradeskills; Artisans offering advice to anyone who needed it; whether they bought or sold any crafted item.

I am also sure that EQ will throw more challenges to all the Artisans everywhere and that we will conquer them also.

I salute all my fellow Artisans whether they be at 1 or 300 in a skill. Keep on trucking and you will get to whatever your goal is.

Alas I probably burned about 2.5 mill pp, so it gets even worse.

1.6 million platinum? 2.5 million platinum? 100 attempts at grandmaster trophies? Yikes! Here I thought that saving up platinum for roughly two years in order to purchase my giant white drum was a task and a half! I'm not certain whether to congratulate people such as you, or berate you for your machocism. Truly, reaching 300 in some of the tradeskills is an epic journey for some of the classes/races out there!

                  Definately the latter!

However, its not without its rewards. In the end, my tradeskills payed for my tradeskills, so you do get something out of it. Being the first GM DoN armour and symbol maker on my server pretty much paid for the rest of my tradeskills.

Over the years I've spent about 5 million pp maxing my tradeskills, mainly because I will pay extra to do the simplest recipies, with the fewest subcombines, or because I pay sub-contractors to do the subcombines for me. But I have also made several million more than I have spent, and all told, am probably about 4 million pp in the black.

So it's not complete masochism. And besides, you ask any tradeskiller, seeing that magic line of text informing you of a skill-up, priceless, we live for those moments. And nothing tops the feeling of maxing a new tradeskill, or acquiring a new title. I know that making Master Artisan meant a lot more to me than getting my Epic 2.0.

I would have to agree with Ysall and the Fox. Barbarians, nevermind, warriors are low intellect and wisdom and therefore not expected to get very far in tradeskills. Yes, over the years, we spent millions in plat to finish off these tradeskills.

Was it worth it? Yes it was. Some people a few years back said it couldn't be done. Well, I love a challenge so I started on tradeskills; I am now a Master Artisan. I have made back all my plat I spent on tradeskills and now am generating a profit. This took time however; It took last 6 1/2 + years. So yes in my eyes was it epic similiar? I would say YES and harder than doing an epic!!!

It started out as answering a challenge, but I grew to love doing tradeskills, making most anything in the game.

LOL..now I want my super trophy pretty please.

Will there be more challenges ahead in tradeskills? Definitely as new expansions come out, there will be more new recipies to learn.

I think I should clarify my position a little here. Although I think that reaching 300 in a tricky and costly tradeskill might seem nuts, I am certainly NOT disregarding the big advantages of such tradeskill mastery, the almost unbelievable determination of those who have done it, or even undertaking tradeskills period. I have always made far more platinum by selling tradeskill made items that I ever have by farming critters for cash or rare drops. Heck, even my two level 36 alternate characters routinely rake in multiple thousands of platinum between their adventures simply by making and selling tradeskill subcombines that are in demand in the bazaar.

I originally began practising tradeskills with my main character way back in the first few months of the year 2000, and the reason for that was to serve as a break from beating down critters for experience. In time, however, it's also grown to be an excellent source of revenue as well as a source of pride. For those who have gone down GigantuousOfPovar's route (nutty as it may seem), you have a LOT to be proud of.
