  • Training Fletching?

It's been a while since I've done fletching and I vaguly remember spending 21 freebie points into it. A friend of mine would also like to work fletching but told me that he needs to get one more level so he can at least train the first point into fletching so that he'd be able to start the skill. I'm confused. I don't remember a manditory having to train a point in any tradeskill before; train a point into something skill like dual wield or riposite yes but fletching?

I tried looking about for an answer to this question, but I think I was not successful at my research attempt. Could any one tell me if you have to train the first point of fletching or not? I think it's not, but I just want to be extra sure.

    Thanks,

No, you don't have to train it. I was a little concerned about that myself but was already at the fletching merchants so I attempted a combine, no problems with skill ups

You do not need to train at the Guild Master. Although I would suggest that you 'train' at Imildu Woodstreak in the Abysmal Sea to get the 54 free points. All it takes is a bunch of button clicks and doesn't cost anything and allows you to make the discordian and taelosian arrows later on.

IMO, you can kill level 1 mobs and sell the loot and make the plat to buy the usual stuff to skill your way normally from 1-54 a LOT faster then it takes to run to abysmal and do 500 trillion clicks.

        Ugh.

If you have a couple plat to spend, just skill up normally. If you hate your wrists and are broke as heck, then do the quests.

However if you plan on using the GoD arrow recipes for skillups from 202-227 you're probably going to want to do the quest eventually anyway.

Why? The taelosian/discord rocks arent that terribly common, and you get 2 each for turning them in instead of 1s for a long time making them yourself, eventually getting 2s.. and then even more eventually getting 3s... which will probably all balance out in the end by the time youve gotten your skill to 250.

Either way is good and its good to have the pros / cons spelled out for both options.

Isn't it nice that we have options now?

Well, doing the quest and having the ability of doing the conversions yourself means not having to run to Abysmal Sea every time you want to do a fletching run. Picked up some Chunks of Rock in the Bazaar? Get cracking!

Chunks of rocks are pretty common on vendors on Prexus. I did the quests at a skill of 189 just so I could do the rocks when 202 came around, seemed worthwhile since chunks of rock aren't that expensive a way to skill. I have somewhere in the area of 500 rocks waiting, as well as tons of condensed stuff...now to just get 3 more AA's.

IMO, Taelosian/Discordian rock route is better than substance arrows merely because acrylia is such a ****ed pain to farm. Incidently, someone mentioned to me that buying a few bows off merchants, or making one or two then restringing them with OOW components was a possible way of skilling up. Will investigate further.

after 2 stacks of converting taelosian rock, i was getting 1+1 mostly, after 5 stacks i am getting 2.5 average per connversion

this is an average 5 arrowheads per chunk, compared to condensed's 2.

however, the trivials being 188 and 202, that average willl fall, making them with skill 212... I am going to try to find a GM fletcher to make the arrowheads for me.

The arrowheads trivial at 188 for the Serrated and 202 for the Discord. You can make merchant-bought arrows until 202. I failed very few arrowheads from the 3-4 stacks of Taelosian Rock I bought (using geerlok). I currently get 2 x Taelosian Stone from a Taelosian Rock, so from the 3-4 stacks of rock I made about 300 arrowheads, getting me to 216 fletching so far. This is a really good skillup path to 227 and will save you farming acrylia till then.

Not sure if the OoW fletching routes are worth trying, those Girplan Feathers seem a bit too scarce for my liking.
