  • GoD Arrow Evaluations

    Hi All,

I've been doing a great deal of analysis for my upcoming Fletching Guide.

This has included evaluating / spreadsheeting / analysing / guessing at the GoD fletching recipes. As such, I thought I'd share my conclusions so far. Hopefully some of you can confirm or deny my ideas and help us all grasp this mysterious new fletching a bit better.

First of all, the Serrated Arrowhead & Discord Arrowhead were changed on or about June 16th, 2004 (likely as a result of Fan Faire). Damage was upped on each by 1 and they were tagged magical.

So as of now, the following works for *nearly* all recipes:

    SERRATED ARROWHEAD (Damage 3 Magical)
    DISCORD ARROWHEAD (Damage 4 Magical)

However, for Class 3 Wood Arrows with Large Fletches there is a deviation.
Instead of being Range 0 as expected, they are Range 5 instead.

Trivials are where things really get interesting. It is still too early for me to tell if the trivial information posted is incorrect or if there is some great mysterios patterns that are eluding me.

In all other arrow recipes, the trivial of the arrow is determined by the trivial value of the highest component. This does not appear to be the case with GoD fletching.

The first and most surprising thing is that in several cases the Serrated Arrows appear to be more difficult than the Discord Arrows. For instance, Class 4 & Class 5 Wood Serrated Arrows have a listed trivial of 212 while Class 4 Woo Discord Arrows have a listed trivial of 202. Same with Class 5 Bone.

The second is that certain components do not fit the progressive theme. For instance, while Class 4 & 5 Wood & Bone Serrated arrows are listed as trivial at 212 and the Steel at 227, the same arrows made with the "in between" Ceramic Shafts are listed as trivial at 202.

The third is that the type of nock used only appears to make a difference in a few cases. For instance Class 3 Ceramic Serrated Arrows that use a Small Nock are listed as trivial at 212 while Medium & Large Nocks are listed as trivial 202. The same is true for Class 5 Ceramic Serrated Arrows. But this does not appear to hold true for Class 4 Ceramic Serrated Arrows or Class 5 Ceramic Discord Arrows.

Otherwise, there are only a few patterns that suggest relationships.
All GoD arrows made with Ceramic Vanes are listed as trivial at 227
All GoD arrows made with Steel Shafts are listed as trivial at 227

So now that I've thrown this out there, I'd love to see some discussion on it.
Are these apparent inconsistencies in the trivial rates simple misreporting errors, or bugs, or something else? Given that the rarity of the raw materials makes these arrows very impratical for skilling up and that they pale in comparision to Acrylia / Karana / Wood Elf arrows of the past, what is there overall purpose in the game? Assuming any of my above observations are true, why would the devlopers seem to go out of their way to "break the system" when it comes to fletching (ie why make the components interact differently than all other arrow components)?

Having done some of these arrow combines, both discord and serrated, I can vouch that the trivials and ingrediants are not in error.

Rarity is in the eye of the beholder. Rare for me is acrylia, frequently camped, usually for tailoring purposes. Almost as rare is the condensed shadow. However, I've seen lots of chunk of taelosian rock drop on my sewers trials, seen some on NPC merchants, seen even more in bazaar.

Instead of farming acrylia pieces/bricks/blocks until I was encumbered, finding a forge and reducing those bricks/blocks down into something stackable, then heading out to farm condensed shadow, I found I much preferred to just hoard taelosian rocks/stones until I was ready for a good fletching run...and then run it.

GoD fletching seems to be working as intended (for me). It's not about range, delay, or damage. It's about trivial 227. I could do Karana arrows instead but I saw no point since I already had so much taelosian rock to begin with. That will change of course once I hit 227.
