  • Skillups - Dex vs Int - My results from 203 to 250.

Last night, I managed to reach 250 in fletching, and I thought I would share my stats going from 202 to 250. As a half-elf, karana worshipper, I used Blessed Guardian Arrows.

    From 202 to 223, I had 305 DEX, 222 INT: average per skillup: 56.5

    203 112
    204 44
    205 25
    206 17
    207 4
    208 109
    209 6
    210 14
    211 72
    212 93
    213 52
    214 20
    215 150
    216 130
    217 29
    218 30
    219 126
    220 22
    221 1
    222 75
    223 56

I decided to try getting int to 305 to see if my luck would change. With a 305 INT and a 230 DEX: average per skillup: 23.3:

    224 32
    225 11
    226 22
    227 3
    228 25
    229 5
    230 26
    231 1
    232 12
    233 27
    234 22
    235 4
    236 4
    237 13
    238 22
    239 23
    240 3
    241 56
    242 1
    243 65
    244 15
    245 3
    246 82
    247 5
    248 27
    249 99
    250 22

I thought other people may appreciate looking at the stats. It did seem odd that I had much better luck getting skillups with INT instead of DEX.

With a small sample tonight I would have to agree with your conclusion. I am making shadow tipped acrylia arrows with a skill of 206 (216 with Geerlok). I am a multi tradeskill idiot (in the best sense of that, lol) and have a good + wis suit (Ranger) that I usually wear. Tonight for the first time I remembered that Dex could be a primary stat for fletching (/blush). My gear leans more towards dex than wis naturally so I just grabbed a Focus (305 now) and attempted 110 combines.......zero skillups

I know the RNG hates you sometimes, but this is not the first skill I have pushed past 200 and those results seem more indicative of a primary stat around 215 (My normal wis without KEI) rather than 305.

/sigh....when I think of all those grimlings, lol.

Im a warrior and naturally super stupid. I have never fletched with a wis/int of more than 145, dex is always 240-280. im currently 235 w/ Trophy.

I didnt keep detailed stats as i did it, and i was buying acrylia/condensed at about 50p per. sometimes farming on or the other, but i seemed to get 1 skill up per 1kpp i spent. so on avg a skill up approx every 20 or so combines. there was time it would be more and times i would get 2 or 3 almost back to back.

I had a natural 216 when I attempted making shadow/flame tipped arrows. 0 skill-ups in 200 attemps with 305dex, 242int. I think that maybe with this recipe that because I was so low I WOULDNT get a skill up.

          The RNG owns you.

Ah, the RNG owns us all Splunge.

Although it may hold a special place for rangers /wink.

As a ranger this topic is a big deal to me...

              Anyone out there refute this?

Are the dev's still sticking to the str works for smithing and dex works for fletching line (they used to say dex for tailoring too, but it doesn't seem anyone believes that).

I might be able to put together a decent set of wis gear but I've focussed on dex a long time and seeing this kind of post is discouraging...

Don't forget that success doubles the chance of a skill-up.

You did the high int combines with higher skill (and thus higher chance of a successful combine since the trivial of the combine remained the same).

Higher skill ==> higher success ==> more skillups

I bet if you reversed the experiment and did the high int combines first and the high dex combines second you would be singing the praises of dex

I'm a 62 ranger. Two weeks ago at 265 wiz, 147 dex 500 attempts at champion arrows (triv 335) got me 4 skill ups, 215 to 219. Yesterday, at 265 wiz, 245 dex, 500 attempts got me 15 skill ups 219 to 234. I know RNG is weird but that is quite a difference. You might want to have both over 200 if possible.

                  7-3, 502 attempts got me to 249, 265 wiz, 203 dex. 63 more to get to 250.
