I believe the spiders in PoN that drop the silks are trap mobs.
One trap that I know the location of is north of the gargoyle city. To locate the trap, go south from the Hedge, past the PoNb zonein, past the rock outcrop. There is a hill ahead of you with the Gargoyle city beyond it.
From here you can hug the zoneline over the hill to the gargoyle city. If you do not hug the zoneline and follow the hill around, you will trigger the trap.
They're the ones just over the river past "dogs" camp, right? If so, as a heads up, be on your toes... I had a rather amusing incident a few weeks back, was actually the first time I'd ever even seen these spiders. Apparantely, they're SK mobs; well, I hope so, after eating two Harm Touches for 1.1k each.
You want the spiders at the "consorts" camp. Pass the werewolves (nightstalkers) and pass the slarghilugs and up on the hill are some mean ole spiders. They drop the silks for the Nightmare bow and Nightmare silk tailoring.

You found the guards for The Terror Matriarch (named spider). Inferal and one other sort of consort, yes they are SK mobs. The smaller spiders around hte bases of trees drop silks, I've seen as many as 3 I *think* off one spider. They're rather nasty for some classes to solo, though as a bard I could just fine. A 65 monk/sham can duo them easily as well. Drop rate is about 2 silks total out of every 5 or so spiders.
Lothesome Creepers are not root/snareable but are mez/charmaable they hit for 500+ with fairly standard resists.
Predatory Creepers are root/snarable have standard resists.
Both have a FD Proc on melee, and neither summon. Ranger/Chanter duo works good to charmkite with these (let the pets tank) and the silk seems to drop about 1/3 and often 2-3 silks per mob
