What are you trying to skill up on? 202 is the max (or near it) on store-bought arrow components.

You can pass 202 at level 30, there is no level cap on tradeskills like there is on offensive, defensive, racial, or other skills.

Since the patch where fletching was made harder....well, that's just it. It's a lot harder to get skillups now, especially after 202 and storebought arrow components are done.

Darkwood bows are your best route to go now to keep going with Fletching, just don't be ready for a skillup on every combine, or three combines, or even ten. It's completely random

Make sure to have either your dex or wisdom at or as close to 255 as possible and the skillups will come, just slowly.

When I did darkwood after 202 it was painfully slow to get skillups even before the patch that made it harder. Also be prepared to spend quite a good chunk of money now unless you plan on farming acrylia to make acrylia arrows.

      Happy Fletching!

          Skillups in the 190+ range

Well, first of all, there are a few things you haven't mentioned.

What is your Int/Wis and Dex, these stats will affect your skillup rate.

How far away is the trivial of the item from your current skill? The closer these two numbers, the more relative skillups you should get.

I'm not familiar with bows (only done arrows so far, Fletching is currently 202), so I'm not sure how many combines are represented by the 7kpp figure you mention.

Also, even with maxed stats, you will average a skillup every 40-50 attempts when in the 190+ range, BUT this is just an average. Almost every tradesman in every tradeskill has a story or two (or ten =( ) of a particular skill point that took 100, 200, even 300 combines to reach. It's just the random number generator at work (or on coffee break, who knows!).

Hope you get a skillup soon!

            flething after 202

            Thanks Tat...
At one sitting when i spent like 3k out of the 7 i had tranquility and shissar
something buffs! With no skill up! lotts of combines were sucssesfull.
But I dont think that after spending 7k doing mitheril champion arrows
and darkwoods even without buffs u would not go up 1 skill point!
I was told from another high lvl fletcher that you player character lvl
does matter now??? from 202 to 250 he said he stopped at 202 the started again at 51 character lvl....

              Hello-

Not that this is the most helpful reply - but I am a 48th Level Warrior - and I have a skill of 204. I got my 2 post 202 skillups while I was 47th level. So - if there is a level cap - I dont know what it might be.

              Hope that little bit helps.

There is not a level based cap on Fletching or any of the other actual "trade" skills. Tinkering, Alchemy and Make Poison are separate and are capped differently.

Hamerita is L22 and a 250 human smith alt to Sumamael who's a 250 dark elf smith. If tradeskills were level capped, she'd never have gotten to 250. She broke 200 while still in the teens if I recall correctly.

                  Wolf,
I use a lvl 25 human ranger to to my fletching for me and his skill is currently at 204 unaided...and i guess that would be 214 with geerlock and i make the acrylia arrows and seem to have about a 78-80% success rate on makeing them and the skill ups are few and far between. So yes you can go past 202 at your lvl.

There is no level cap on Fletching, or any other general trade skill.

My fletching alt, a 23 wood elf druid, is at 243 fletching.

To give you a lil bit of feedback on how fletching got worse...

Going from 244 up to 250 not too long ago it cost me about 7-8K in mithril arrows to get the 6 points. I had my DEX topped at 280 for the entire 400 or so combines that I did to get those 6 points as well. Fletching is painful now that they made it harder

If you can still access the old boards, you'll find that since they nerfed, I mean broke, I mean fixed fletching there are tons of folks with the same story - stuck in the low 200s after having burned several thousand plat on arrows and bows of various combos with little or no skill ups.

It's begining to look like fletching might be in a close second for worst tradeskill to advance following smithing now, although I hear that pottery has become rather unreasonable now as well.

I'm in the same boat. I'm stuck at 203. I have done well over 450 combines (I stopped keeping track after 400) using a combination of Trueshot Bows, Rough Darkwood Bows, Shaped Shadewood Compound Bows, and Mithril Champion Arrows and still have not seen 204.

BTW, someone suggested darkwood bows were the best skillup. For wood elves, I believe you'll have better luck with mithril arrows. You get a pittance back from vendors, so I saved all mine for the bazaar. But each combine is about 15 or 16pp each, not several hundred.
