  • Damage/Del

I'm posting here, because I don't know where else to go...
I'v always wondered how the dam/del of the bow realterd to the dam/del of the arrow? Which one should I care about? Should I go for low del on bow, not worrying about dam, and hi dam on arrow not worrying about del? And help here would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

Delay on all arrows is 0, it has no effect. On your bow, you'll want to strike a comfortable balance between damage and delay. Also, the damage of the arrow is added to the damage of the bow, and the same applies to range.

From what I've heard from a few Ranger friends of mine, you want a low delay.

They fire bows to wear down the monster as it comes running in, so you'll want as many shots as possible.

Get the high-damage arrows. (And most important, get your archery skill up as high as it can be!)

Hark! Who is that, prowling along the fields! It is Draggar De'VIr, hands clutching two hardened pitas! He cries gutterally: "In the name of Thor the Mighty, I hereby void your warranty, and send you back to God!!!"

Shot damage is calculated in a similar fashion to melee damage; your weapon damage rating times some number X plus the damage bonus (0 for archery) = total damage done. In the case of archery, take your bow damage rating and add your arrow damage rating.

A low delay bow only helps under three circumstances :
        A ) Shooting for skill
        B ) Headshot
C ) Endless Quiver using a high damage arrow (better overall ratio that way)
Of those three circumstances, rangers are the only ones who get B and C.

Unless you have a ton of plat to burn, it is uneconomical to shoot high damage arrows. Shooting an arrow worth 5 or 6 plat to tag a mob (thus only one arrow fired) that drops 2 or 3 plat is a losing proposition for your wallet. Instead, concentrate on bow ratio, and use cheap arrows, summoned usually being the cheapest. If you're going to be bow kiting (primarily the domain of the ranger) you want either summoned arrows, or the cheapest arrows you can get that will affect the mob you're shooting (ie - silver tips if magic needed; basic arrow if not).

And by the way, if you're a ranger asking these questions, permit me to direct you to the Ranger's Glade, at http:\\www.interealms.com

From personal experience and opinion, for pulling mobs, you'd want a bow and arrow that would give you the greatest range possible. For kiting mobs (or using archery as primary damage dealing for the EQ/AM3 rangers), the best bow you can have is a bow with a good ratio. For using /disc Trueshot, a high damage bow is preferable.
