I want to start stocking the bones for the Fisherman's Companion on my trader. I have 200 Fishing skill and I am a level 56 Ranger. I think I can fish safely in PoV at the water underneath the big ramps in the sky but if there is a better spot please let me know. For PoN, I am absolutely clueless. I've never ventured very far out and it seems like there are too many wanderers to fish at the stream. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Safe Spots for Fishing in PoN and PoV

The dock in PoN has no roamers--have someone show you where it is. There is often a group fighting there so you'll have to pay attention to make sure they dont do something stupid--like whipe. Anywhere else I can think of has a ton of roamers. Note too that the water itself is *NOT* safe. Sarlaugh and very-nasty-fish(tm) live there along with various Tar'dak (like crocodiles) so I think the dock is the only choice.

They've gone to great pains to make fishing in PoN difficult. As an enchanter I relied on minor illusion. Minor illusion moved me to indifferent to the mobs. When PoP first launched they had sub-coded the area around the stream to prevent minor illusion from being cast at all. However, there were some spots where you could get just close enough that one could cast minor illusion and still have about half the casts land in the water.
Well, I went back a few weeks ago and they've nerfed minor illusion even further. It no longer changes faction with mobs in PoN (and else where I believe).
So...I appreciate the tips above.

Agree TheRiov. Docks are imo the "safest" spot to fish.
Grab a Levi and Invis to get there and you will be fine.
Just take a lots of baits as it seems Chilchid are harder to fish than Valorian and you don't want to go from GY to Docks too often.
Be careful as some mobs can see through invis like Trees and some spiders too. Think some Tar'dak see invis also.

Docks is where I go to fish in PoN. Appears to be completely safe unless someone drags a mob on you. This would be unusal, as it's not really in a path between places people normally go. You can get aggro crossing the river, usually by going too close to hobgoblins.

I agree that the dock is the best place to fish but a couple of things. Since some mobs there see through invis, it's difficult to get to the dock to fish. Second, although there are no wandering mobs at the dock, if you are not sufficiently high level, you can get aggro from close by mobs.

Are there any tricks I should know about to get to these docks? I think I have a LoY map I can install, that should help a bit. I asked around a bit in-game, and none of my friends know how to get there. As a level 56 Ranger, should I have any problems with aggroing nearby mobs?

To get there you need levitate. Most mobs seem to see invis, so I rarely bother with it in PoN. From the graveyard, facing the wall, head right keeping the zone wall on your left until you get to a mound to your right. Shift over to it at a safe spot, then follow it. You may find a treant near the mound, so you will have to be careful. Once part way around the mound, head left to a rock on the side of the chasm. From the top of the rock, head straight across the chasm, looking up as you do. Once you touch down on the far side of the river, keep low near the river, head right (keeping river on your right) until you hit the docks. If you got aggro, instead of heading to the docks, head left to another mound, keep that mound on your left, go around it, follow the zone wall to the hedge, behind the hedge is a zoneout rock.
Good luck.
As for PoS, it is quite safe as far as I've been able to tell, to fish at the river near the zone wall.

Please please please PEASE do not run the zone wall to the end where the chasm begins. There is a 3 spawn of hobgobs in that corner and everytime someone has fubared running through the first part of PoN it was because they ran the wall to the chasm and agroed those stupid hobgobs. I've even done it once myself the first time I went this way because I was following some idiot who didn't know about them either.{dead image removed by Ngreth at ulujain's request}

I'm not sure why people find this so difficult....
If you can get to the hedge without aggroing anything, then you know where to fish....
Ok, a description of how to get there.
From the zone, follow the zone to the right. Stay as high on the zone wall as possible and you won't aggro anything. Pay attention though, after you pass a few trees (they are static spawn, favored soloing spot of many charming classes so they may not be there though) you will come to a big cliff. Do NOT get to close to the edge or you'll annoy some hobgoblins. Just follow the cliff a little ways and you will see a plateau to the right. There are some ravens (static spawns, again, might be dead) and you'll see a distinctive notch in the cliff. Standing at that point you are a bit outside the aggro range of the ravens and you can look out over the cliff across the river.
I'll describe what you can see if your clip plane is all the way out (and the monsters are actually drawn). Straight across you'll see a small cliff that makes a plateau. To the right is the main area of the zone where the wraiths and banshees roam. Near the water to the right of the cliff you'll see a big gator. To the left (under the cliff) and following the water's edge all the way around to almost where you are are hobgoblins. To the right of you at the base of the cliff are slugs.
Now, if you run straight out with levetation aiming for the base of the cliff on the other side, you'll go right between pretty much everything. When you hit the other side, you can turn around and fish to you hearts content.- Birt

In PoV you want to zone in and stay close to the wall. Go either direction along the wall until you see water. Both ends of the lake/river/body of water are safe places to fish. You can run along the edge of the water to the bridge if you want to (the bridge area is safe too, if there are no trains), but that's not necessary. You generally need to be level 55 to go to PoV.
PoN is very similar except you can't follow the wall all the way. At one end there are Nightstalkers, at the other end are Hobgoblins. So you have to levitate and break away from the wall at some point and run to the cliff... then float off the cliff and across the water to the far shore. There's lots of advice about just exactly which spot you should leave the wall and run for the cliff... you too will soon find your favorite spot. The dock is right in the middle, and you will want to make your way to the dock as soon as you can since it's the safest place.
In PoN there's a small creek that flows out from a waterfall. Don't be fooled by the creek, the actual lake/river/body of water is much larger and is at the bottom of a cliff. Also in PoN, there's no way to go back up the cliff. Once you've gone down the cliff the only zoneout is a gravestone next to a big hedge.83/1000 High Elven Enchanter on cazic (8x300 tradeskills)

I actually have a favorite fishing spot in the creek just down from the waterfall. There's one small spot there where you're far enough away from the static spawns by the waterfall, but also out of aggro range from the wanderers between the creek and the zone out. I fish there constantly and only have to zone when someone pulls something over the top of me.
As for PoV I just zone in, face the wall and turn left, follow the wall to the small body of water by the little frog and fish in perfect safety. Never even seen a mob there other than the frog.Idara Inari - nosy woodelf druid addicted to tradeskills

There are two ways to safely cross the water in PoN to get to the docks; one with levitation and one without. The crossing point for both methods is the same, so I'll first describe the best way to get to it.
Before you set out from the graveyard, turn your far clip plane up as high as you can without causing major lag. I usually put mine to 30 or so. You want to be able to see across the water once you get to the cliff. You also want to be able to see the hobgoblins BEFORE you get too close to them.
OK, when you zone in to PoN, face the zone wall and then climb as high up on it as you can. Staying as high as possible, go to your right (North). As you run along the wall, you will gradually find yourself heading East as the wall bends around. When you find that your are heading due East, slow down a bit and start checking your /loc. Once you are at ROUGHLY pos 1800, pos 600, move forward slowly, and if your far clip plane is turned up you will soon see the cliff ahead and you. If I remember correctly, ahead of you and along the zone wall will be some large rocks, and as you move ahead a bit more, you should be able to see one of the hobgoblins to the right of, and just beyond those rocks.
At this point, stop moving forward and look to your right (south). You should see a few trees at the base of the zone wall. Move down to them and look south (and slightly east) along the edge of the cliff. You should see 2 or 3 large rocks out in the distance at the edge of the cliff. This is where you want to go.
Make your way out toward those rocks. There will be a couple ravens just beyond and to the right of the rocks, so be careful. Also, don't stray too far left as you move out or you risk aggro from the hobbies.
METHOD 1: WITHOUT LEVITATION
Once you arrive at the large rocks at the edge of the cliff, you should see one very large one that is right at the very edge. If you are facing out across the river, move to the very edge of the cliff and look to the left of this big rock. You should see a sort of notch in the cliff. It isn't right next to the rock, so look a bit to your left. If you move closer to the notch, you will see that it is actually a groove in the cliff face that runs all the way to the bottom. This is your way down.
Basically what you want to do is very slowly make your way down this groove. You will take some damage from falling, but if you take your time (baby steps) you will make it safely to the water's edge below.
Once you reach the bottom, look out over the water (east) and you should see two large crocodile mobs (Tar'dak Hunters IIRC). What you want to do is swim across the river to the gap between the two crocs. Swimming the river is safe, and as long as you don't stray from the direct path across to the other side, you won't get aggro from the hobbies or the slugs.
Once you have safely crossed the river, make your way up to the top of the slope and then go right (south) along the river's edge. If you stay at the top of that slope, you won't aggro the crocs below, but you MUST keep an eye out for wandering wraiths as you make your way south to the docks. They are not too far from where you crossed.
NOTE: While you can fish at the bottom of the cliffs or at the point you come ashore after swimming, I DO NOT recommend it. If anyone gets aggro while making the crossing, they will more than likely bring the mobs right down on your head. Make your way to the docks, it is MUCH safer there.
METHOD 2: WITH LEVITATION (and SoW)
Once you arrive at the large rocks, if you don't already have levitate up, cast it now, and climb on top of the large rock that is right at the very edge of the cliff. Once you are standing on top of this rock, look due east. If your far clip plane is turned up high enough, you should see a large pine tree on the other side of the river. Aim yourself at that pine tree.
Once you are pointed in the right direction look up (to make sure you don't fall below the edge of the slope on the far side), fly across the river until you can see the branches of the pine tree. It really helps to have a high sense heading level here because you can't see across the river while looking up obviously, and you want to make sure that you are heading due east from the rock to the tree. Once you see the branches, stop immediately and get your bearings.
At this point, head south along the edge of the river being careful to not stray too far down the slope to the water's edge (don't want croc aggro here). Again, keep a close eye on the wraiths that wander freely around the area near the docks.
Enjoy your fishing.Last edited by Ehre; 08-06-2003, 07:24 AM.Sir Ehre Firestrike
