  • Fishing for Halflings

Well, not fishing for halflings, but fishing, for halflings...

Over the last week, I got my fishing skill to right around 170 (I am at work, cannot remember the exact number) without having to cast my line once.

I now want to go fish some of the exotic fish, and in particular the Bass from Cabilis. I have gone into Cabilis (and through it) invisible before, but I have never really played a lizard, so I do not know a tremendous amount about the zone.

Is there a spot in cabilis where a halfling can sit and fish for bass, unmolested; or are my hopes simply too high.

I know there are some tunnels in the zone, and they would seem like a likely location, but I was also thinking about those canal type areas between the different sections of the city. I am just worried about wanderers coming about and trying to eat me.

As a side note, one of my factions with Cabilis 'cannot possibly get any higher' but I have never tested this out, as I am sure my plump little halfling body makes a fairly attractive looking snack to those nasty creatures.

    Thanks!

      hm

I suggest buying? If I remember correctly, you can buy points in fishing at your guildhall, provided you have the coin.

But... Nearly 40 levels worth of training points??? Nobody in their right mind would do that!

I’ve never tried to fish in Cabilis. Heck, I’ve never even walked through the city. But I have read up on the faction there for other reasons. You should be aware that there are at least four different factions within the city. If you have fought a lot at the Lake of Ill Omen or in Seb your faction with the guards may be very good. But there is a monk faction, a shaman faction and one other I can’t remember right now. And if one of those lizards attacks you the guards will most likely join in no mater how much they normally like you. So your best bet is to find a spot where nothing ever wonders and do your fishing there, assuming such a spot exists.

I wish I could be of more help. Best of luck with your quest.

You might make a little lizard to wander around the city and check out the pathing of the guards and so on, find a spot where you can most safely fish.

The faction you will be non kos to are the Warriors, or Troopers. Luckily for you this includes most of the guards, watch out for crusaders though, they're sk's and ht. What I'd personally recommend is this: Make a baby iksar and look around, find a place with only troopers and merchants in range (last I checked the worst faction you can have with any merchant is dubious, to prevent merchants from constantly running off to kill things and being bugged I believe). Sit there for a while, and make sure no crusaders or other mobs path there. When you're ready to go fishing, invis, zone in, and drink down an illusion potion (much safer than invis since it won't fade and nothing see's through it). The illusion will leave you kos to only the shaman guild (I think). As long as you stay far away from any shammies (who only hang out in their guild hall) you'll be fine. Run to your fishing spot, fish and enjoy. Keep iksar illusion on if you're not completely confident in not getting deaded fishing there. You can also use illusion if you need to shop at the merchants to buy bait/sell. Otherwise, be very very careful.

The nastiest ones you'd have to deal with would be the Crusaders, who do roam. (Easiest faction to raise is Legion of Cabilis, which are the guards labeled Troopers; I'm assuming those are the ones you are maxed with). Crusaders are SKs, nasty. The necro faction (Brood of Kotiz) is also nasty, altho you shouldn't bump into them if you stay out of West Cab proper.

There is one spot I'm thinking: as you come into West Cab tunnels from LOIO, there is an island in the canal. A gondola stops there, so part of it is close to the water.

Two alchemy merchants are on the island. Shouldn't aggro, being merchants.

There is a 3rd NPC there: Sartar the Unrivaled. One of the Quest of Heros guys. Random spawn, runs his mouth a lot. Don't believe he is on any Cab faction but I'd con him from a distance to be sure. Neither troopers or crusaders roam down this far.

And thusly you can fish off that little island.

                  Ok --

How did I get there without casting a line. Simple. Points, and a LOT of cash. I asked in a thread a couple of weeks ago if it were possible, and it is indeed possible to get a very high fishing skill, without actually fishing.

First thing I did was spend one point in fishing some time back. From time to time, I made some of the lures, just to see if I could. Got a couple of points from doing that, and little else. Was taking Fletching to 200 a couple of weeks back when I noticed the recipie for fishbone darts, and having a monk pet (every good little halfling should have one) thought he could use these amazing darts to do some serious pulling when we were grouped.

Well, Fishbone darts require one component that is sort of a pain to come by....Fish Bones! Amazingly enough (now this is a SEKRIT, so DON"T tell...) Fish have bones. Yup. It's true. There are bones in fish.

Well, I told myself here is a way to raise your skill, and get something you want without having to sit and cast your line (sorry guys, it is boring to me....). So, off I go to RV for 10 stacks of fish... I can always get roots, and had a mule with more foraged roots, veggies, berries and fruit than I ever thought I would need. Needless to say, the supply of roots did not last long.

For whatever reason, I have not needed to use a training point in a very long time. I used one each for every available language, then trained myself with other toons ( I three box on occasion ), so I had a LOT of points left from the past to use up. I spent 67 points on fishing. With some Celandine Herb, a ton of roots (bought the bazaar out of roots for a whole weekend) my trusty filet knofe from all those godawful Halas meat pies and a LOT of patience, I watched the numbers fly by. Now, I check every vendor I can find for any rare fish, hoping to get the high quality bones for better darts.

I did venture into Cabalis last night, just to peek around the place. stayed invis the whole time, but a lot of crap does wander around in there. I am going to check the island tonight to see what I can see there.

                  Thanks for all the help!
