  • Is this doable

I am probably going to get thrown to the wolves for this one....

Is it possible to raise fishing skill to 175+ without fishing? I researched on the boards about making the lures, etc and noticed the part about making bones. The money is not an issue for me... the time sitting there fishing is. I think the only bottleneck in my plan is going to be roots, but I could simply stop throwing them away when foraged and solve that.

I really, really would like to make the fish bone darts.... but fishing is one skill I have never played with much. Heavens knows how I managed to get it to the lovely level of 61, because I certainly do not remember fishing that much.

    Thanks!

To get that high without fishing, you will probably need to buy some fishing levels from your trainer. I bought my way from around 160 or so to 190 in order to make the blessed fishing rod. You could probably make bones for a while, then buy the rest of your way to 175. It's not cheap, but it is fast.

roots for 1-2 gold in the bazaar, certain fish for about 5g-1p (depending on server) Buy up a whole slew of them and combine while during med time.

I often take a tacklebox/supplies and double up. While Im fishing for specific fish i need for whatever skill level im working on I immediately make it into bones. So I get skill by fishing and preparing at the same time. Can get like 3-5 combines inbetween casts, and if you take some with you to prepare up front then it's a steady supply. Figure if I'm going to take the time to sit and combine I can do it by a water source and cast a line at the same time.

Thunder/Greengill Salmon + knife will take you to 135 with no other ingredients if you can buy a whole slew of them at a time

Bah, just fish. Taking a break from the headlong pace is good for you.

I recently took up fishing and it has been a very pleasurable experience for me. I do believe I am *hooked* on fishing

Seriously though, I really thought fishing was a waste of time and I am into powerlevelling and making money, but now that I started fishing while camping in the Hole one day, I decide it is actually pretty fun. My favorite spot is in PoS because the Storm Salmon makes nice food that I can get my baking up with =)

Fishing is up to 167, never bought any points, all earned from fishing and from making things in a spit with the fish I catch I have managed to get my baking up to 145 so far, and climbing.

After closing in on 5 years of playing EQ, I have decided to spend a lot more time on the trade skills and stuff I never took much time to do before =)

            Ok.

It worked. Had a mule I had totally forgotten about FILLED with foraged stuff... got me started with the roots. Bought the bazaar out a few times this weekend for roots, and I now sit at 170 fishing.

I did not fish. Fresh fish to make the bones got me most of the way, and some occasional other fish have helped me along.

I also spent 67 points at the trainer, which I now sort of regret, because they may have been better used for 170-200.

Oh well, not 65 yet, so a few more points are coming my way.

I am currently at 180. I found a good way to get the skill up and make some money is to go over to CS (Cobalt Scar) and fish for Cobalt Cod.

Your skill goes up and you can sell either the Cod or make Cod oil and sell it to people trying to skill up on Tailoring. Cod oil goes for between 35-65 each on my server.

              Thanks,
