  • Has anyone ever asked a dev...

...why Fishing doesn't have a 250 skill cap? For all intents and purposes, it is a tradeskill... It just seems so out of place with a 200 skill cap.

I believe the response was "because that's how we set it up" ... fishing has been around a lot longer than the 250 skill cap was, and it's always been level capped, unlike the more generic tradeskills. The same thing happens with foraging being capped at various levels for various races/classes ... it just is. Likely at this point, they don't see a real need to go through all the code changes to raise the cap, as the only thing that a higher fishing will "net" you (in more ways than one) is more fish.

They could make it so the higher your skill is above 200, the less footwear and dessicated weaponry you manage to snag. And you'd think some people would be catching bald fish, with the amount of scales I manage to grab. Sometimes I think my hook is more of a blob of gum on the end of a stick, like you'd use to get a quarter from a storm drain.

I've always wondered about all those rusty daggers myself.

If we are only getting the rusty ones, what kind of weapons are those fish hoarding away down there?

          Fishing garbage bug

The sandals, rusties, and fish scales are caught in such quantity because of a bug in the fishing tables that I've been /bug reporting for almost a year. The garbage catches appear to be have been inserted into the table for successful catches about the same time that they made adjustments to the fishing and foraging tables before Luclin was released. It was at this time that the successful catch message was changed to indicate exactly what you caught instead of just 'You have caught a fresh fish!' for everything. Note that you get the message, 'You have caught a Rusty Dagger!', but you also will get the 'You have caught . . . something.' message as well. The latter being much more rare for those with high skill.

The fact that this occurs even in Plane of Knowledge seems to indicate that this is a bug with the global fishing tables (if there is such a thing, and they don't simply copy/paste between zones). This tells me that it should be relatively easy to fix. I can tell you, that with over 180 skill, I don't particularly like catching more junk than real fish. If the waters of Norrath, the Planes, and Luclin were really that polluted, there wouldn't be any living fish, would there?

Poor fish could be cutting themselves, and the cuts would be jegged from all that rust.

              Its your fault

When you catch that rusty dagger or sandle, what do you do with it? You either drop it on the ground or destroy it, dont you? Well, if your dropping it on the ground that explains it- your catching the same dagger over and over again. If your destroying it then the fish are taking the destroyed items and making them whole again to improve their smithing and tailoring skills - (destroyed dagger + water = rusty dagger. Trivial at 332)
