My fishing skill is 188. About 300 bait ago my fishing skill was 188. For the last 100 bait my wisdom was 251. I’m not sure fishing uses wisdom like the 250 trade skills do, but it was worth a shot. Having practiced many trade skills over the last couple of years I’m not too terribly surprised to have hit a brick wall. It’s certainly not the first time. But short of making blessed fishing rods, is there any other way to try to break through this wall or do I just need to sit down and go through another 300 or so bait? I’ve looked at lures and such, but they all seem to have trivials lower than my current skill, at least the ones that don’t involve fishing in Sleepers Tomb. I don’t really mind the fishing, in fact its rather fun at times, but it would be nice to see my skill go up every once in a while.

Any alternative to casting my line at 188 skill?

Find a nice, quite spot... plop down and pull out endless stacks of bait. It just takes persistance. Oh, and don't spill your beer!

Well, I think fishing is a skill that you use your guild trainer to train all the way up to 200. I don't know how much it costs and I don't recall if it's level-limited or not.Scapa Orkney, 64th level Wood Elf Druid of Tunare

I thought about using training points for fishing, but that just seems like cheating somehow. I’ve been spending most of my fishing time in Ak'Anon, as well as training my swimming up to 200. Perhaps its time to move to Cobalt Scar. I hear tell there’s some whompen big fish in them thar waters. :PPait Spiritwalker

Fishing is level restricted, but like you said... it can be purchased up to 200 as an option.

Wisdom does effect fishing skill ups, so keep that puppy as high as you can.
I can think of only one alternative to fishing for skill ups, and that is blessed fishing poles for the PotC quest. They trivial above 200, so you have a chance to skill up while making them. There are two rare forages, one 85 plat vendor purchased component, and some other drops involved. All toll, you'll spend a LOT of time or a LOT of money (or some combination thereof) trying to skill up this way. And your chance to skill up making a pole is identical to that of fishing, so I'd stick to casting if I were you.
Now if you WANT to make the poles, by all means do so. I started making them at skill lvl 186 and had roughly a 90% success rate. I just wouldn't choose that one as my skill up path.Celdil Evershield - High Priest of Mithaniel Marr

Go get a filleting knife (if you don't already have one) and get some plat out of the bank, head to the Butcherblock docks, hop on the boat, and disembark when it stops at Zachariah Reigh's island.
You can buy bait, fishing poles (if you don't have a Fisherman's Companion), hooks (if you waste time and ingredients making those) and tackleboxes there, and can also sell the junk you catch and don't want there.
You can more than make your money back selling the Saltwater Seaweeds you catch, and can just make more bait out of the Gunthak Mackerel instead of paying for it.
I take trips to OOT just to fish for the reasons I listed. Last time I went, I sold the 11 Saltwater Seaweeds I caught for a tidy sum to another player in PoK afterward.
(You can also buy poles and bait on Sister Isle if you have to use the Translocator, but I don't think they sell tackleboxes - Of course, this isn't an option if you're evil)
Not sure what faction the people on Zachariah's island are on, so I don't know if evils could fish there or not.

I sit in gunthak and fish..the sea urchins and the jelly fish both sell to the vendor for 16pp a stack.. I bring the supplies with me to make the crispy gourami (trivial 138, enduring meal, yield 1, WIS 4, INT 4, wt 0.5, tiny, all/all) and the grilled eel ( miraculous meal, STR 3, DEX 2, AGI 3, HP 5, wt 0.5, tiny, all/all)..
I can make 150pp an hour or so fishing and sellin the jelly fish and urchins..then I sell on my vendor the grilled eel and crispy gourami..
its relaxing and semi profitable since I am on the stromm server..

After hitting a very tall and very hard wall, I finally started gaining fishing skill again. Amazingly enough, my last fishing trip of about an hour, took me from about 193 to 200. I think the RNG may have actually felt sorry for me. I did my fishing in Ak'Anon because it was easy to reach the dock via port books and I could make clockwork essence from the clockwork koi. I now have over 200 essences in the bank. I used to buy embroidery needles and use the essence to make them into clockwork needles and sell them for 9pp each. But I think this idea has caught on and I haven’t found any needles on vendors in a long time now. So at some point I’ll make my own and still make about 6pp per essence. Not a bad deal. I wouldn’t want to do this as a consistent source of income, fishing for clockwork koi is not the fastest way to make money, but since I was trying to max out my fishing skill anyway its nice to be able to make a few coins along the way.Pait Spiritwalker

If you are 46+, I can heavily recommend Plane of Tranquility for fishing after a hard day at wor.. erm, grouping.
Before logging off, I nip over to the fishing vendor (up the stairs at the corridor that takes you to PoN), buy a stack of bait, summon my rod and sit and watch the sunset.
If you want useful fish, it's not the best place, but in terms of relaxing, I found it lovely.

I got mine to 200 fishing in Plane of Water. Try a different zone, I know when I got a few long streaks going over to Plane of Storms for a bit worked great.Sage Jaytee Bushwacker [Fires of Heaven]

I ran a script to do fishing skill-ups with my shadowknight. Sad, yes, I know. At 180 INT it took about 15 hours of solid fishing and exactly 4384 casts to hit 200, starting from 0.
I did the first 104 points in Tox just to be alone, but got tired of zoning back to PoK just to buy bait so I did the last 96 points at the East Freeport docks.

Eruds Crossing is pleasant too. There is a merchant who sells bait and poles 5 feet from the water, and Barren Flounder turns into cultural needles like Clockwork Koi. It is not a lot of profit, but is better than the proverbial sharp stick in the eye. Right now the boat is broken, so the Academy kindly has a Translocator working, making the trip there very fast indeed.
I tend to bring my spit and a bag full of batwings to make fish roles as I fish.
I may check out Gunthak though for my last 20 points. That does sound like the best pp per hour.Obina Redemptus
