  • Fishbone Darts...

I want to start making these for my monk. A friend let me borrow some of his and the range on them are wonderful. I haven't seen any for sell, so I decided to just start making my own.

My question is what fish do you need to make the fish bones? Will any fish do or only certain kinds?

    Thanks!

Pretty sure that any fish bone will work with the recipe. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

If you look under the fletching recipes (it takes fletching skill to make the darts) you will see a link to the fishbones.
      Or see below.

There are a whole range of fish that can be turned into fishbones

        .

I just started trying to make these darts and have had to raise:

        Baking
        Brewing
        Smithing

In order to make the fishbone dart tool.

Now I need to get fletching pretty high to attempt the darts ONCE I have got my fishing high enough to go catch the fish so I can then attempt to prepare them and get some fishbones...

        /gets breath back

Its a non trivial task and unless you really badly want darts I would reccomend Antonian Javelins (human cultural smithing 250 range as opposed to 225 range on the darts). If however you are a handbag monky then darts are your only option unless you get some friendly human to make the javelins for you.

Note that you can make 250 range darts (whittled) but that they require High quality (as opposed to normal) fishbones and are therefore a bit harder to get.

        Good luck with it.

You didn't include in your post if you were a Human or Iksar monk...if Iksar, you won't be able to make Antonican Javelins as they are Human Cultural Smithing.

If you are Iksar, you actually have an advantage Fishbone wise. As per my recent Cabilis survey, about 70 percent of fish you can get in Cabilis can be prepared in a tackle box for fish bones or high quality fishbones, probably a lot easier for an Iksar monk than places like Karnors or Siren's Grotto as a source (as far as high quality.)

The Fishing recipes page already lists 2-9lb Fetid Bass as sources of fish bones, and 10-17lb and Humungous Fetid Bass for high quality...my tests add Giant, Gigantic, and Large (2.0 wgt) Fetid Bass, as well as the newly implemented Sewer Catfish.

Doesn't take long to raise the needed Fletching...I got my wis up to 237 last night and took fletching from 107 to 183 in an evening, just standing next to the fletching vendor, total cost about 600pp. Follow the guides here and on the Rangers Glade. Since the Celandine Herb needed to prepare the fish to get the bones costs like 5 plat and change, it is far cheaper to raise skill on arrows than darts...and you can sell em back to vendor to extend your skilling money.

Also note that the same bones you get from Nightmare Cichlid and Valorian Discus for the Fisherman's Companion quest in PoT, can be used as fish bones for darts, even though they are named bones. I haven't tested any other planar fish yet but it is possible that other planar fish can be prepared...and monks are great for fishing in dangerous places feigned

Cost per dart assuming no fails works to about 1 plat each, main expense other than time is the Celandine Herb, cost a little over 5 plat to make 5 darts. Not counting skilling and equipment to make them, but heck, if I had saved all the money I have spent on tradegear and gizmos over my career, I would be one rich monkey! That being said, the darts are selling for 5 to 7 plat on Vazaelle, a nice profit if you make extra.
