  • rods still breaking?

I used to always have to to get new rods - but I haven't had one break now for ages, a suspiciously long time in fact.
Over 50 skill points and at least a dozen stacks of bait... (all fished in PoS)

    Nope

They still break. Guildie broke his Collapsible Fishing Pole last night fishing. I'm curious if the summoned Fishing Poles from the Fisherman's Companion will break or not. Anyone know?

Best guess for the summoned poles would be "Yes, they too can break". However, since they are summoned, all you have to do is summon another! Not quite the pickle that being without a backup normal pole is.

From what I can remember when I started fishing (back in 1999), your chance to break a pole goes down as your skill goes up. The higher your skill, the less chance of your pole has to break. When you finally get up to ~200 the chance seems to be about 5%.

The fishing poles from the Fisherman's Companion do break, but summoning a new one only takes 10 seconds.

I need to find a item that can summon bait now!

Yes, I've had the brells fishing pole (from fishermans companion) break on me, so it is possible :?

But... Now I don't have to worry about going and finding another pole as long as I have bait (and trust forage to keep you in bait).

Acutally this is the exact opposite of what has happened to me! lol I used my first fishin pole for what seemed like forever. Now that my skill is nearing 200, I seem to break poles all the time! :x I made a few tinkered poles and each of them broke in less than a stack of bait. So I quit making them, and stuck with the normal cheap store bought poles. But I just got my Fisherman's Companion, woot! No more worrying about broken poles ruining my fishin. Plus free ale!

              Fishing and poles

              All poles can break.

Fishing code appears to work like this (out of my head representation)

              -High Success (zone specific)
              -Mid Success (fresh fish, etc)
              -Low Success (shoe, knife, etc)
-Low Fail (you fail to catch anything)
-Mid Fail (you loose your bait)
-High Fail (you loose your pole)

I'm not sure what level of fail the "you spill your beer" message is, though the mind shudders at the lost brew.

I have no hard numbers, but anecdotally, I seem to break as many poles as I always did.

Fishing skill seems to just effect the level of success.

did another 30 points at the weekend, same rod, still unbroken - that's a new record for me - never ever had a rod last so long. (approx 60-146)

No, nothing happens. I think its just in to add a little excitement - i.e., you thought you had one, and in your haste to start pulling the line, you spilled your beer.

                          I can't remember exact numbers, but from 2 to 100ish I didn't break a single pole. I'm now at 186 I break a pole usually twice per 200 bait.

I am experiencing the same as the person who reported that their first vendor bought pole has never broken. I used mine to skillup to 150 without it ever breaking.. It stillhasnt broke. However, my quest pole breaks regularly...go figure.

                              Spilled bear

Actually when I have spilled my bear I notice my drink supply decrease. I think I lose the first water in my inventory each time.. I rember fishing once when I was a total noob in Blackburrow and had 2 water spilled my bear and was low on drink and spilled again and was out. Whenever I am goinging fishing I buy an extra stack of water
