  • Stuck???

I've been fishing for a lowhile with one of my characters. She has a skill of 161 and I like to keep it up with her level which is 33. The cap should be 170 at this point. Well, this weekend I fished 5 stacks of bait/grubs in 2 locations... and didn't pick a level up. I also had reasonable INT buffs. Is there a problem with the LoY and fishing? Is there a point where normal bait/fishing becomes trivial??? Any suggestions?

    No problem in Gunthuk

Spent a couple of hours in the Gulf getting my fishing from 188 to 200.
This was two days ago. Would suggest buying the Catch-a-Lot bait as it is not that much for a stack and the special catches sell back quite well. 9g and change.
Using regular bait worked just as well for me.

      The grind

You have finally reached the point where casual fishing isn't going to keep your skill up anymore. Expect to go through several stacks of bait (5 is a lowball - sometimes more like 10) to get a skill point. There is no combination of bait/pole/zone that is any more or less likely to earn you a skill up (no zone has a cap, there's no limit on how far you can take your skill with a plain ol' fishing pole and vendor-purchased fishing bait). The random number generator is your enemy, ignore it and fish for pleasure or profit. If you're really concerned about keeping the skill up, find a zone with both profitable zone-specific fish and a vendor who sells bait and set aside a large block of time (I ground out the last 10 points of fishing in EK (where I could also forage tea leaves, making it triply profitable for me - foraging tea leaves for Qeynos Afternoon Tea, fishing up Thunder Salmon for Surefall Ranger's Trail Juice, and maxing out fishing to make Blessed Fishing Poles with a greater chance for success)). As recommended above, the Gulf of Gunthak is also a lovely place to fish if you're not into other tradeskills (or even if you are - some lovely baked treats can be made from fished goodies in the Gulf).

      Geez, /ramble off

      Hope that helps,
