  • Saltwater seaweed... my bane

Ok, so I'm trying to make the old temper for my human cultural stuff. The big hang-up is the seaweed. I can always get tons of mugs of the seafuries, but fishing for the seaweed has netted me exactly TWO in an hour. Auctioning to the zone got me a few more, but not many. Anyone have any secrets for getting this stuff? Is it that I need a higher fishing skill than I have (currently 93)?

    Thanks,
    Daeneb

I fish for saltwater seaweed in Timorous Deep at the end of the pier by the translocator. I get about 12-16 an hour there. I do put on my wisdom gear and a KEI for skilling up. Went from 1 to 198 in about 16 hours of fishing with a 255 wisdom.
I have 200 sea tempers stocked up and 12 extra seaweeds

I do my fishing for seaweed on Erolissi Isle in OOT.

Kuronekosama has a point, also, that a higher fishing skill may net you more seaweed. I have not personally proven this, however.

Huh! And when I go fishing in RL, I try to avoid seaweed!

Sister Isle is a bad place to fish, because of the pirates walking around. I prefer to fish on the island with the vendor that sells the tackleboxes, hooks and bait. No mobs to worry about while fishing (unless you actually want to go in the water and kill sharks), and if you run out of bait or get a bunch of crap like sandals and rusty daggers, you have a place to stock up and to sell right behind you.

Take the boat from Butcherblock to get there. I don't think the boat from Freeport stops at that island.

(Wouldn't recommend it if you're evil, though. I think the guy on the dock will attack you if you are, but I've never confirmed that)

I fished in oot at the dock - the pirate that came by would always get smacked down by the sisters, so that was no big deal. Also, it let me auction for sea foams, which is very useful. I was there when the translocators were, I laughed my butt off whenever a kos person would port in - the translocator's feet were littered with bodies hehehe

Sister Isle has only one pirate, and he's on the opposite side of the hill from the dock and is a fair wuss. The pirates that wander are on the neighboring island, that you either row or swim to. (One of the Mudtoe Ogres is there as well.)

There is also a merchant on Sister Isle that has bait, poles and you can sell fished junk there as well. I don't remember if she has tackle boxes or not.

You need a higher skill - at 153 I was pulling in more seaweed then fish - it's terrible - the @#$% seaweed and the @#$% fish scales are eating through my stacks of bait like there's no tomarrow.

(If it's any significance, I'm always fishing on the tip of the "lagoon" that named giant spawns in on the side closest to the pirates.)

As a druid its easy to fish and kill Sea Fury's at the same time. Ensnare pull, Root, cast line, dot, dot, dot, re root, cast line... etc. Getting mugs and seaweed at the same time. I have noticed a big difference in the amount of seaweed now that my fishing is 194. Im getting roughly 20+ and hour. Wisdom is around 230. Withought KEI im still hauling in around 20+ an hour. Also, the Gunthak Mackerel is a blessing. I almost never have to buy bait now (unless I want the +mod bait) since I just convert the Mackerel to bait.

I got tired of sea furies and now buy my foam for 10pp whenever I can find it. Had 200 Sea Tempers in the bank until last weekend. Got 11 skill ups
I enjoy the quite fishing sometimes. Chating with friends and drinking summoned ale when I am not in the mood for combat.
I sit in Timorous Deep at the end of the pier because it's easier to get to then Ocean of Tears. I am now catching 20-25 seaweeds an hour at 200 skill with a Brells fishing pole.

I realize this is a slight thread hijack, but I'm in a fishing guild *smirk* (We're all players who got sick of raiding and just hang out now and raid when we feel like it) so I end up with a lot of seaweed.

I've been helping some friends level their froggy alts in our old haunt near Gornit, so I have some seafoams as well.

I'm also a master brewer so I was thinking I'd make and sell the temper. Would you human smiths buy temper? How much would you buy it for?

I'd happily buy sea temper. In general, I don't farm the Mugs of Sea Foam, but I do buy them off vendors when I see them. This means that at a minimum, I'm paying 21pp for each temper, plus the time to fish the seaweed and the (miniscule) cost of the fish wine. I could see buying pre-made tempers at 30pp each. The amount of time and hassle it would save me would be worth it. On the other hand, whether it's worth your time to produce them at that price is a different question.

I would also pay 30-35pp for Sea Tempers. I am going through a lot of them and would find it very convenient to purchase them.

I've never seen sea tempers offered for below 50pp each on Torv (usually 75pp and up), so I figure to keep on buying/farming the sea foams (10pp each max) and fishing the seaweed myself.

But 30-35pp each might make me change my mind, depends on how poor I am at the time (bearing in mind poverty is a constant state of being for the aspiring GM Smith )

The guild just had one 250 human smith and he's been called to active duty in the Middle East.

So one of our guild humans has volunteered to GM smithing. It looks like my tempers won't be sold on the open market after all.

But thank you for your replies. If I ever do end up with extra, I'll have a decent price point.
