  • Nice spots for fishing competition

Was looking at options for fishing competitions, where the ideal place would be:

    1) lots of different things to catch (min. two zone specific fish but would really like more)
    2) safe for lower levels (say lvl 12 upwards)
    3) safe for good and evil races
    4) easy to travel to (assuming all have the PoP expansion)

My first thought was Firiona Vie. The weighted fish are brilliant for comparing what you caught, boat is easy for low levels to take to get there and it's not got people fighting in the city.

Course, I forgot about the iksar and the enmity there. I know there are spots outside of the city where you can fish, but that means it's not so easy to get to (specifically for low-level evils who can't take the boat and may not survive the run from the book) and ends up being a "come to this loc on the shore" sorta thing which lacks ... romance.

Cobalt Scar has a selection of fish and would make the tailors/brewers happy but that means a reliance on porters to get there and invis/lev for any who may be KOS to CoV or Othmir.

OOT I'm sure has islands that are quiet, but meeting up can be a pain and I think the porters may balk at having to take a boat.

Would love to do "extreme fishing" in PoN where all are in equal danger but obviously that rules out anyone under 46 which isn't an option.

Sort of ending up with Iceclad (boat or port, two different fish) and by the fishing gnolls is nice and safe or Timourous Deep (boat trip to ogre island or summat).

So the question is, am I missing something? Does anyone have a better idea? Is there any reason why Iceclad is a bad idea?

Any input (except "what a dumb idea") appreciated

I would be interested in a reply to this too as I am thinking of holding a fishing competition soon for my guild.

My old guild leader held on in North Ro. The reason why is, it was combined with a drinking contest and a duelling contest. It was fine - instead of using weighted fish, you can award extra points for catching things like sandals and daggers. (Each time someone caught a sandal, they had to chug a stack of Short Ale.)

Any zone's fine - use your imagination. Perhaps even combine zones. See who can bring back the largest assortment of fished items in an hour. That'll send them all over the world.

Well, according to the zone specific fishing table, these are the only zones with more than one zone specific in them. I hope this helps.

        Cabilis
Fish: Fetid Bass, Gigantic Fetid Bass, Large Fetid Bass, Sewer Catfish
Safety for Alignment: Good is RIGHT out!!
Safety for Level: If you can get through the door, you are golden
Ease of Travel: EXTREAMLY with PoP

        City of Mist
        Fish: Fogwater Trout, Ikfish
Safety for Alignment: MIGHT be safer for Evil…maybe
        Safety for Level: Right out.
Ease of Travel: Difficult at best for level 15 and under, kinda a long haul.

        Cobalt Scar
Fish: Cobalt Cod, Dragon Bay Snapper
Safety for Alignment: Equal for both once there
Safety for Level: Travel through the Wakening lands and Skyshrine or Siren’s Grotto with 15th level…
Ease of Travel: Major Pain: long run, needs key for “safER” route…

        Firiona Vie
Fish: Fetid Bass; varying sizes, Gigantic Fetid Bass, Sewer Catfish,
Safety for Alignment: Once in place: equal for both, getting there: questionable for the Evils
Safety for Level: Safe near the city on the water’s edge
Ease of Travel: mild to moderate: Go to the Butcher Block docks and swim around the port wall to avoid guards. Once inside, con the porter to Timorous Deep; if not KOS you’re good to go. Port to TD, port to FV, and lev/swim STRAIGHT north from where you come in to shore line. (Wolf form may fix all faction issues with NPC, but con first as I’m guessing about it.)

        Gulf of Gunthak
Fish: Moray eel, Deep sea urchin, Ovate jellyfish, Gunthak gourami
Safety for Alignment: I don’t know enough to guess
        Safety for Level: ??
        Ease of Travel: ??

        Iceclad Ocean
        Fish: Iceclad Cutlassfish, Salty Whitefish
Safety for Alignment: Equal for both
Safety for Level: If someone “clears the path” it’s quite safe. I’ve never seen a dangerous mob on the ice flow between the two largest islands.
Ease of Travel: Wiz or Druid port right to it.

        Innothule Swamp
        Fish: Rujarkian Chub, Thulian Mudskipper
Safety for Alignment: Equal for both as long as you don’t fish in the “wrong place”
Safety for Level: mild danger, there are some safe places but scout the pathing first.
Ease of Travel: Book in zone.

        Mines of Nurga
        Fish: Cave Guppy, Sponge Mushroom
Safety for Alignment: Guessing good would be rather not welcome
Safety for Level: HAAAA!!!!! Don’t even try with 12 or under. (good for a higher level “Danger Fishing” contest though…)
Ease of Travel: moderate to a pain

        Swamp of No Hope
        Fish: Despair Chub, Krup Guppy
Safety for Alignment: Fine or either
Safety for Level: As long as there is someone to clear the occasionally skelly or banished Iksar, it’s pretty danger free
Ease of Travel: VERY with PoP

        Timorous Deep
        Fish: Saltwater Seaweed, Timorous Tuna
Safety for Alignment: Equal for each
Safety for Level: stay away from the Ogres and there is no danger
Ease of Travel: VERY short raft ride from the Oasis and PLENTY of places to fish at the landing point.

Cobalt Scar no longer needs the tooth to port there, it was removed several expansions ago.
          Kaaba Cloudberry
          75 Ranger of Prexus
          Fuschia Bloodflowers
          75 Druid
          Talionis

Good to know about the tooth. Thanks. Still not a fun trip for level 15 or under though.
