I have never understood why max fishing skill was never increased to 300

I have tried to find the reason on SoE boards but with no success. Does anyone know the reason?.

at 200 skill, though you do not succeed every time (hey not even an expert fisherman with just a fishing pole and bait catches something every time), when you do succeed you automatically get the best table.

So the current fishing system does not have room for growth.

Thanks Ngreth, that sounds logical (although - I thought maybe it was because no one was prepared to give us fishing nets for multiple catches once we reached 300 in skill).

Why not allow t Fishing to go to 300.

When you are that expert, you should be able to somehow select what you can catch from any of the available loot tables.

As it is, there is at least 1 quest and some tradeskill recipes that become unavailable to high level fisherpersons, or so I've heard. It would be nice to have the ability, as an expert, to be able to intentionally catch those fish on the lower level table...... Without having to create a trhowaway toon to fish for those things.

Ngreth just explained that 300 fishing would be meaningless, as you already get fish off the best fishing table at 200 skill. another 100 skill would have no effect, other than look pretty next to all the other 300s in your skills window.

What you ask, about allowing 300 skill fisherman to "select" their catch, would likely take a code change, which is not easily obtained, EQ programmers have a lot bigger priorities than such a change. Like the current expansion..

closing this thread now, if you wanna get mad about only being able to skill up to 200, go vent (within the rules) in PSR.
