  • Cobalt Cods On Winter Break

Okay, this may just be the RNG playing an enormous joke on me, but I posted this message on the EQLive forum in response to a request for comments on the 1/26/2005 patch:

For the last couple of weeks, I have been fishing in Cobalt Scar for Cobalt Cod to make Cod Oil to use to make Arctic Wyvern armor in an attempt to reach 250 tailoring. I have caught over 200 Cobalt Cods in the that time period. I know I could expect to catch an average of three to four Cobalt Cods per stack of bait. (Very boring, but I can do it while reading or watching TV.)

Last night, after the patch, I used ten stacks of bait and caught many, many Fresh Fish, four Fish Scales, and one Rusty Dagger. I didn't catch ANY Cobalt Cods or the other rare fish, the Dragon Bay Snapper. Please ask if the fish data table for Cobalt Scar can be checked for possible errors. Thanks.

I used only 2 stacks of bait, but I did get a whopping *1* Cobalt Cod, and (I think) 3-4 Dragon Bay Snappers. Was kinda disappointing...On a positive note, the chipped gems were droping nicely off the wyverns!

apparently hi-level fishing was broken, as per this thread on EQlive another person had a similar problem in a different zone, Kyth forwarded it to the Devs and already posted that the problem has been identified & will be fixed

Thanks, I saw that message. I'm glad the problem has been identified. My druid has managed to reach 232 in tailoring and has 200 Arctic Wyvern Hides in the bank waiting for that Cod Oil.

          My experience.

Yes. I've been through 3 buckets so far and noticed this as well so I thought I'd check here. Only fresh fish and just one Dragon Bay Snapper whereas before the patch I had the same fishing exp that you had.

So glad Im not the only one that found it werid sitting CS for hours trying to catch Cobalt Cod. After going threw 5 stacks of Bait and not one rare fish I kinda got worryed. Maybe the 5 hour patch thing on 1/31/05 will fix it. I should read this board more heh.

              No fix on last patch

I went through 5 stacks of bait last night in Cobalt Scar, and not one cod or snapper. Plenty of fresh fish though. Whatever is broken wasn't fixed during the last patch.

Doesn't appear that this mornings patch fixed the fishing problem.

Would someone please tell the devs they need to re-check the high-end fishing in ALL zones. This whole having to submit bug petitions every time I go to a new zone to fish is getting old - Tonight's 2 zones... the Plane of Valor and the Plane of Nightmares.
You can run and you can hide, but I'll track until I find.

Day 14 Fisherman held hostage! This is the third patch since they broke it and still not fixed. I guess atleast the jewelers got their bag fixed so not a total loss but dang they holding up my tailoring with this mess.

Ironic that EQ made vegetables easily available and at the same time broke the availablility of the tuna and crab that non-foragers need to go with the veges.

I'm not posting to thumb my nose at anyone, just to provide what limited info I'm able to give; I fished from the Queen for several hours the yesterday, going from a skill of 161 to around 176 or so. In that time I caught enough crab and tuna (once converted to 1lb pieces) to fill one and one-half bags. This would confirm that only people with a very high skill are affected, or, that the problem has been fixed (somewhat optimistic, I know...).

Oh, and ding 200 baking! Three more skills to go...

First off. Yay on the baking! Secondly, I would have to agree with your claim about higher levels catching fewer "zone" fish. When the bug first hit, with my 190ish fishing skill, I would still catch the occasional Cobalt Cod/Iceclad Cutlassfish/Dragon Bay Snapper. Ever since I hit 200 with my fishing about a week ago, I haven't had a single "zone" fish in about 25 buckets of bait.

I gave CS a try last night; I used 8 stacks of bait. Results: Skill from 176 to 189, and caught loads of Fresh Fish, assorted junk, 5 Cobalt Cod and 1 Dragon Bay Snapper. If this is a normal catch rate, I can see why the Cod is so much in demand. Before I left for work this morning I priced it at 100pp each on the trader. It'll be interesting to see if people are desperate enough to pay that much, or if they'll simply wait for the fix.
