    Out of curiousity: how many casts would you say you had?

      Conservatively estimating at 10-15 seconds per cast, that would be around 480-720 casts...

        I also did some fishing last night to attempt to raise baking skills.

        Fishing skill 200.
        4 stacks of bait in PoStorms = 1 stack of Storm Salmon. Odd thing I noticed was that I got more fish scales than fresh fish.

        3 stacks of bait in PoWater = 1 stack-worth of Giant Snapper and Giant halibut (ratio was about 3 snappers to 1 halibut).

        The drawback with PoWater is that if you are in range to fish, you are in aggro range of the mephits/trilouns. The advantage of fishing there is that there is almost always someone who lacks the item for the gate necklace, takes a couple hours to see one drop.

        Only 1 skill up in baking (208) with 3 stacks of "skill up fish" so my conclusion is that it isn't a reasonable skill up route. Especially since I'm not a forager, and the few crumbs available sell for about 1-5pp each in the bazaar.

            Having done quite a bit of fishing, it seems the fish you need for baking and tailoring drop at around 12-15 per 100 bait you use. I don't count casts, cause too many of those catch nothing and you don't lose the bait.

            The fish in Corathus Creep which get you to a high level in Brewing seem to be caught at a much higher rate, but that might be partly to offset that you need 2 Fungus-covered Plectonemus(sp) per combine to make the fish fungus needed (and it is also used in baking), and 5 of the Tiny Blind Cave Fish per combine. The TBCF seem to be caught at the rate of around 25-30 per 100 bait.

            On another point;

            The 4 lb. tuna that is used in an easy/cheap recipe that is fished in Natimbi, Abismal Sea, etc. has an abominalble rate due to the large table of fished items. It would make sense if you could us a fillet knife to trim down the larger catches to make smaller ones, i.e. 1 8 lb Saltwater Tuna + Fillet Knife = 2 4 lb. Tuna + Fillet Knife. Then the fishing for the skillups would at least be less impossible. It's silly that I would take a 12 lb Saltwater Tuna and only be able to slice it down to 12 - 1 lb Saltwater Tuna in 1 slice. If I'm at 250 skill in baking/cooking, I should be able to cut a chunk of fish meat to the desired weight pretty much by feel...
