  • Fishing Just Because

I was tired, lacking any motivation to read, watch a movie, or otherwise do anything productive with myself. I had no real desire to travel to a new zone, discover new monsters (and kill them!) with five of my closest virtual friends.

What to do? Why, fish, of course. I headed to the Plane of Valor and sat my barbarian self down for some relaxation. A small few groups in the zone. And then the occasional "CC Please?" People would respond with their locations. I finally got tired of the checks. All polite, they were, certainly. But I was feeling left out.

    "CC please?"

    "IC"
    "OC"
    "EW"
    "WW."

    Me? "Fishing."

    "Fishing?" came the response.

"Yeah. Fishing. You know, pole, bait, beer. Fishing."

    "Why?" came another response.

    "Uhm...because I can?" sez me.

"So you're fishing in one of the most dangerous zones in the game...just because?"

    "Uhm...yeah."

Realistically speaking, though, how do you answer that? I guess it took me by surprise. I suppose I could have said I was tradeskilling, but I wasn't. I was just....fishing. Just because. Just because I could.

    It was grand.

    Cheers,

    Jaddari

I haven't fished in any of the real dangerous spots yet, but when I was soloing gnolls in Blackburrow for experience I always took a fishing pole and some bait to pass the time while meditating. Actually, I usually took two for when the first one would break.

Hope you got plenty of Valorian Discus.

I fish just because, too, but I don't yell "Fishing" when someone does a CC.

I yell the type of fish that I'm after.

Hehe. I did that too when I was fishing in Old Sebilis to help a friend with Pottery.

Valor is dangerous? Ook. =) Theres no mobs over at the good fishing corner, and id be very surprised if anyone drug a train of KOS mobs there EVER.

Cobalt Scar is probably more dangerous (depending on your factions with Othmir and Wyvern/Kelorek'Dar) but far more profitable. Cobat cod > fishermans companion.
Youll only sell 2 kinds of bones fotr the companion at a time. People will buy Cod in mass mass quantities, for more money.

The most dangerous place to fish is PoW as far as I know. Really have to have FD to fish there. The special fish that is caught there (I forget the name ) is used in high end baking. It is caught about twice as fast as the Storm Salmon in the PoS too.

And yes - Cobalt Cod would sell in the Bazaar if anybody would ever sell it. I had to catch all my own for the arctic wyvern hide combines. I had to catch 220 of them - took hours

PoW isnt that dangerous all you need is a sturdy invisible and you can fish safely as long as you dont go in the water

i wish the mobs in Sleepers didnt see invis at the enterance, id like to try getting some Weary Wrass one day

I answer to camp checks, but instead of saying 'fishing' I say something like 'crawdads' or 'valorian discus'.

Why not? Maybe someone will have some on 'em that they're willing to part with.

I had been pushing hard to 70 on my enchanter in OoW zones and working hard for runes and upgrades. the other day I had a crappy, stressful day and loaded up on bait and went to Gunthak and started fishing.

I like the LoY zones and did alot of hunting there from Gulf of Gunthak to deep in Hate's Fury. I was fishing for a while, baking as I went if I had the materials, summoning ale and generally feeling mellow.

It was a very realxing afternoon. I used about 500 baits, drank my toon into a stupor and got enough tradeskill food items to keep me clickin' for about a week.

Trying to straighten out my neato necro's tangle of flags, and being accused of doing a Don Quixote on the elevator after it kept tossing me off to the side, I summoned a fishing pole and Sugar my trusty lizzie, and made it real. Strangely, this actually worked (research into Maelin Starpyre's elevator schematics forthcoming). The gnomie was threatened with a borrowed gnomish bolt cutter, finally gave up the plans for the TARDIS (oohhhh, no WONDER the elevator doesn't work), and little Minta was left with elemental access and a fishing pole in hand. The fishing pole served as a divining rod, as it pulled her first to a bait salesman by the water of Tranquility, then to the shore of Plane of Water, which must have been upwind of the hurricane which blew 50923542908576843 used wizzy turbans into the sea of Quellious.

I used to do that just to see what i could find in a new zone or how aggitated i could make an officer on a raid. mainly to see how aggitated they would get.

well after 5 years, i've finally ventured into the fishing aspect of the game. i'm enjoying it.

Just the other day i spent a few hours in Natimbi (i think), catching tuna and crab. I was filleting them down right there inbetween casts. By the time i left. i had 4 packs full of prepared fish for baking. I was thinking since it could be used for baking in the 190-230 range, why not.

So i'm standing there invisable levitating over the water (bard song of traveling) just ran out of pack space, when a system announcement announces a fishing tourney in FV. So i truck on over, put my pole up, get there and have to use the gm provided bait and pole, so there goes 4 stacks of fish already for baking. During the tourney i caught 21 different fish, so there went 21 more stacks of fish ready for baking.

I won 3rd place in the tourney, with 370 lbs of fish caught with 4 stacks of bait. My prize was a collapsable fishing rod. wel now i'm stuck with all these fish, after coming here to see what i could do with them, i discovered i could get fish bones outta them and eventually make darts (range 225 and 250 WOW). Before i knew it, all i had left was 4 stacks of prepared fish from natimbi.

Now i got 3 1/2 packs full of darts and 4 stacks of fish from natimbi. I ooc'd darts for sale and they were selling like hotcakes. the 4 stacks of fish for baking been sitting on my trader forever.

After i got all that sorted out and on traders and in shared packs in bank, i headed over to POD. I figured, heck, i could make some fish ooil and get a skill up for catching the fish and making fishoil. Wouldnt you know it, that nifty prize i had won a few hours earlier BROKE on the 6th cast.

I know at one time cobolt cod was desperatly needed by tailors for something (cultural?), is it still that way? I know my master ogre smith that was created and lvled up soley to make ogre/troll cultural is about worthless now, since there is soooo much better drops that are superior to the cultural armor.

well cobalt cod is used for some velious tailoring, which many tailors use to drive themselves insane just to scream '250 TAILOR!!!' (to be more accurate cobalt cod is wanted for the cod oil made from brewing) how desperate people are varies from server to server and how much patience they have to fish up some 200+ combine runs /snicker
