Ok this is the first post here so bear with me.

I just started fishing for my lvl 4 wizard and was wondering what is the best place to fish for profit at my lvl. Right now my character is the docks of freeport fishing.

Totally depends on how much risk you are willing to take You would have a relatively safe camp in Ocean of Tears, which has a few rare fished items, including the seaweed. You might want to try the Karana's for Thunder Salmon. Not sure if the fishing is fixed off the Queen of Thorns but fishing there would net you a small profit for the crab and tuna. Super high risk but really nice profit would be fishing in Cobalt Scar (assuming you can even get there).

Note that all of the above would have to be sold in the bazaar, I doubt you'd get much from an NPC for anything you fished.

I think the best profit from vendor sold fishing is still the Gulf of Gunthak. There are 4 zone specials there that sell for just under a platinum each. I doubt you will get rich with your skill at level 4 but it will more than pay for your skill ups and put a few plat in your pocket..

You can buy bait and poles in the lighthouse just a few steps away from safe fishing areas. The only danger is getting trained by someone running to the book. If you pick a your spot carefully you can even avoid that.

When I first started levelling my froglok paladin I spent a huge amount fishing directly in front of the entrance to Gukta while medding and healing. The spot in front of the single guard means you are well within the safe zone so wont be troubled by wandering mobs while fish and Ruala the merchant is very close to sell all those rust daggers and sandals.

The problem you will find is that fishing is level limited advancing 5 skill points per level, meaning you can't top it out at 200 until level 39. Level cap = 5 + levelx5.

Apart from the glory days of Abysmal Sea there is very little you can fish which makes good plat until you can get into place like Chardok and the Planes of Nightmare and Valor. But while it will never make you rich it is a great way to support other skills like baking. e.g. the cheapest and easiest way to GM baking is via the GoD tuna and crab recipes. And so long as you can afford a rod and bait you will never go hungry.

I believe that somebody has posted that the 'fishing is level capped' is a rumor that is incorrect. I tried to find it this morning but couldn't. So, no hard data but you might want to go ahead and attempt to skill up anyway

I know I was in the 80s while still hunting in BB, I think I left there around level 13 which would have capped me at 70 but that was a looooong time ago so I could be wrong.

Sorry to contradict but who ever said that fishing is not level capped needs to try again. I know this from direct personal experience of fishing for long periods (days at a time during first 2 weeks of GoD) and never once beating the level cap as described in EQcasters here.

I'm not saying I'm 100% correct, just that if it was me, I'd sure fish anyway and just see what happens. If nothing else, you do still occasionally get something nice
