  • Few Fishing Questions

    1. Is there an unbreakabel rod? That encahnters can use?
    2. Does it matter where I fish for skill?
    3. If I fish in PoS with 5 skill can I randomly get the storm fish? Or will those only show up at later skill levels?

    1) No. All rods break. Especially expensive ones. Get a Fisherman's Companion though, and you can summon new one every time one breaks. Details at www.eqtraders.com.

    2) No

    3) Yes, but you will get a lot of nothings, a lot of sandals and junk. Salmon will be few and far between (as they are at 200 skill).

I went to Plane of Storms with a skill around 120. IIRC the storm salmon would jump onto my line about 1 in 20 casts. When my skill was around 150 or so the ratio got better to about 1 in 10 casts, with fresh fish most of the time. This was of course with the +2% mod fishing bait.

Good luck, get the fisherman's companion and relax like fishing is meant to be done.

There's always a chance of catching the zone rare, but the lower your skill, the more chance that you'll catch nothing at all, break your pole, or catch junk. That having been said, the Fisherman's companion and a ton of bait are your best bet, no matter where you choose to fish.

Is it just me or do Ammo mods not work? I have some 2% bait in my ammo slot and when I open my tackle box it still shows the same Skill.. nothing Higher....

Put one of them also in your ranged slot. Items do not represent additions to statistics in the ammo slot, ever. However, your fish bait works like MOnks and their throwing items. Put one of the item in your range slot then the rest in your ammo slot. You will gain the stats and cycle through from teh ammo slot.

What's your fishing skill currently at? A 2% mod will give you 2 extra skill points at 100 skill, 1 extra skill point at 50 skill, and no extra points at 49 or less skill. Skill mods in the ammo slot do work, (this was fixed after the new UI came out) but a 2% mod adds very little in the way of skill (maximum of 4 skill points if you have 200 skill).

Alchem, what is the purpose of that list that you posted?

                  2. Does it matter where I fish for skill?
That right there was the reason. I just thought I would let them seea guide I follow when fishing for something important and I have always spent my first few points in fishing actually making lures instead of fishing. And when I did start out fishing I would also start Baking for the fishrolls and batwing crunchies.

I didn't know about the ammo slot though, that's good to know.

It's much cheaper/easier to skillup on fishing by fishing than by doing lures, at least in my experience. When I first started out I got 5 skillups on my first bait, which is very cheap. Though that was before the dagger/sandals changes. And in general you can make some money by skilling up on fishing from day one by selling the rusty daggers, sandals, and other things that you don't need to merchants.

The best place to fish for skillup is wherever you enjoy to fish. I generally like to find a nice quiet corner that has some good scenery. And one of my favorite places is the lake in west commons, since nobody really goes to that end of the zone.

I find PoN for Nightmare Cichlid to not be a great place, because unless you're an FD class it's very easy to catch aggro and get dead from fishing there.

But the most important thing is to find a place where you're enjoying what you're doing, as the skillup rate does not vary from zone to zone.

I see your point, but I learned over the years that leveling little twink alts is a reason for insanity lol Whenever I started a little alt for Unknown_reason_1000, I would have them hunt their newbie areas and keep all the furs and wings and stuff. Back then making lures was a cheap alternative to just fishing. I guess I was being nostalgic on the old days, when grabbing a silk thread was an adventure not a hassle because of bazaar prices and selfish farmers. Back then you didn't have to really spend a dime if you had the time. Making lures was cool to me becuase I fish in real life and the thought of making my bait was a great roleplay aspect to include in my arts.

And it wouldn't be exciting or fun if everything was easy. Fishing in PoN is very easy once you know what you're doing. You can actually stand on the pole that supports the dock in the far left and right corners. If you stand on them you wil not agro the croc that patrols regularly at the docks and sometimes under it. Granted it's more of a hassle than fishing in PoT, but then again that's the fun I guess now that I'm at the end game I look for the more challenging and exciting aspects of the game. Heck, nowadyas the only thing that surprises me or humors me is that eventhough I'm 65, Elemental and VT flagged, 120+ AA's, I still need to have a strategy for lvl 46 zones like Fear, LOL.

I really wish I could just fish for fun like I use to. I remember getting my first Thunder Salmon and just going crazy that I caught a rare. Fishing is a great skill, I wish we had more to do with the tacklebox (

Anyways, for money, Cobalt Cod, Thunder Salmon, Nightmare, Valorian Disc, and Abysmal Sea fishing yields Crab and Tuna. Crab and Tuna wil net you the most joy from your spoils profit wise just because of the size of the stock once you break them down into 1lb'ers. If you want something pretty to look at while fishing, Nedaria's Landing by the waterfall, FV by the waterfall -you can see the staues and the city nicely from here, PoStorms has just really nice beach sounds-it's a great place to visit and just listen for a while.

Tudani got me all sentimental about fishing so, What are some of the coolest you have fished?

Please fish more Cobalt Cod and then sell them in the bazaar for a reasonable price. Reasonable is not 45pp per fish when I need 100s either.

                        >>Just my shameless plug to get more Cobalt Cod in the bazaar<<

Thanks for the ammo/ranged tip, I will try that. My fishing skill is 170-180 somewhere in there.. I went trivial on Prepaired fish sometime last nigt....

I found what worked for me was to fish in Nedaria's Landing for the Thunder Salmon and Fresh Fish... After I got a stack of Thunder Salmon I would turn them into Fish Eggs (Tivial @ 135) After that when I had a bunch of Fresh Fish and some more skill I made Prepaired Fish/Fish Bones that (Trivials @ 171) My next step is to find a Prepaired Fish/Fish Bones that trivials out at 182 that is easy to fish up. Im thinking PoV Fish, they can safly be fished near the Outer Caves(OC camp on Bertox)

If not the PoV fish what of these is safest to fish... grotto bluegill, ikfish, various fetid bass, cobalt cod, wulf fish, red roughy, fogwater trout, kunzar koi, nightmare cichlid,

I think you have the right idea about fishing in Valor. it's safe, you can skill up easily without much hassle and make a little pp if you play your cards right. Those bones sell for 50pp + on MT.
