  • Fishing in the Abysmal Sea

Anyone try to fish lately in the Abysmal Sea??? I'm only catching land sharks no matter how close to the edge of the water I stand without falling in. I was so looking forward to catching tuna and crab to use in baking recipes. Sent a bug report to Sony. Wonder if it will be fixed soon. Where else can a level 20 druid fish for tuna and crab? Any suggestions? Anyone else having trouble here?

    Fished out of luck,

I fished all day yesterday in Abysmal. Since I had SOE on I don't know how close I was to the water...just kept moving a lil forward and casting til I was no longer fishing for "land sharks".

Went from 0-80 in fishing though
Fishing is ok when you get to a point where you can buy as many poles as you like and enough bait to fill the sea.

The same thing happened to me the other day. I had to go to Natimbi to fish. I was unable to get anything but land sharks. I kept trying for several minutes but was never able to get anything.

Moving this to Fishing, as it's not directly related to more than one skill.

Btw, be sure to /bug this in game when you're standing at a loc that you think should work but gives you the "land sharks" message. Having specific locs should help them track down the problem. Also be as detailed as you can about what other places in that area you have tried.

            Fishing in Abysmal Sea

I had my druid there about 3 weeks ago and experienced the same problem. i thought maybe it was just me, however a nice Shaman came along and asked him about it. He tried fishing as well and had the same issue. I guess I must have used the wrong tool and petitioned in customer service. Next time I will do a /bug report. My druid is level 40, so I just went to Natibmi and fished over by the merchants and had not problems with mobs or anything. Was able to get enough crab, tuna and other goodies to do some baking.

              Forgotten Halls

It seems to have the same fishing table as Abysmal Sea.

I did not think of doing a /bug - glad you brought that up. I will go back there and see if I am still unable to fish and submit the report if not.

                  fishing??

If I walk down the ramp from the dock to the water far enough to get my toe hairs wet I have occasional success . I get the "land shark" message about 80% of the time, even though I see the splash animation every cast, and catch the tuna-crab about 20% of the time.

here is the text of the EQlive post 06-16-2004 by Grumbuk-Dev

We recently discovered the problem that was causing fishing to not work in Abysmal. Not huge news I know, but I am sure some people are interested in knowing that a fix is on the way. The nature of the bug was that the code was looking for the surface of the water based on scanning up from the ground level under the water and only looking 100 units up. Abysmal's water is much deeper than that, and since it couldn't find the surface it failed to think you were in a legal fishing location. The fix is going to Test server today along with other stuff that had to wait until after the live update.

                        Better fishing in Abysmal Sea

Until this fix makes the live servers, you may want to try this.

There is an article on RPG Expert that shows some kind of buoy that you can get to if you have a way to levitate. Just go over the side and get to one of them. I turned to face the next buoy from the one I was standing on, cast my line, and it worked. One thing to note is that I have gotten the "land sharks" message on subsequent casts in the same spot (first cast worked fine, next cast didn't), but I just turned a bit to the right or left and was able to fish again.

Also, I wouldn't stock up on bait as much as the article calls for. This was written when you could sell back big fish for insane amounts of plat, which has been corrected since. I took my 36 druid there and fished up a couple packs of tuna and crab, which added up to a hefty amount of weight but not so much I couldn't move. When breaking down fish for baking recipes, a 7 lb tuna gives you seven 1 lb tuna meats, a 4 pounder gives you 4, etc. I wound up with alot of fish and crab meats to process into the Beer-battered recipes.

Here's the link to the article:
