I don't know if they did this before, but I got a 13lb crab out of one earlier today. This may be what the cloth caps were meant to be.

When I was still checking them I would get crab, rusty daggers, the soggy sandals, and cloth caps. They were also sometimes empty.
I still am hoping that the cloth caps are placeholders for things the fishermen lost like the rainbow trout (assuming the glittering fish was that) and coin purse. And hoping that once it gets fixed it will open up a sequence of Abysmal quests. But so far it is wishful thinking.Distracted Druid Storm Warden of JinXed on Vazaelle

It was posted here by one of the devs that the cloth caps were a placeholder. The caps were all I'd ever find in the battered traps. I got the crab after the latest patch.
Although it's possible there's some meaning in the things the fishermen say, I think they're all just the normal fishing stories.Comment
