Most of my characters fish at least some. I started playing in 99, when boats were a way of life, so my warrior got over 100 just waiting for boats. She started out eating the fish, and then found it more cost effective to sell the fish and buy muffins (this is before they added durations). Of course, she also has at least 6 languages maxed, and most others at least started........
My ranger was efficient -- I would buy fletching supplies in Surefall, then stand at the river and fish, fletch, sneak/hide, and cast spells to max skills all at once.
My clerics raised their fishing while baking, very fast.
Why not have a net made using fishing? Like the 1 shot snares that drop in various zones. The lures where a neat idea but the triv's where way to low. And having them all the same for so long didn't help. I to would like to see a GM trophy for fishing OR the ability to increase it with AA (yes I would). Having the trophy summon Bait would be nice. Having it summon a deluxe tackle box would ROCK.
I got my fishing up fast waiting on Rez from Raid wipes. Got the companion with help from guildy who got the valor fish. I cleaned em and did the turn in. This is a must have item. Working on all chars having one. Try this, every time you spill a beer, summon one and drink it. gets that skill up fast.
{mmm drools over Parts} Ugh never get a DE as an assistant cook, shudder.
As a bit more of a complete answer, unlike most tradeskills fishing and spell research are BOTH skills that you can "buy" up (once you meet the level requirement for the skill level you're trying to obtain) -- so I'd highly doubt that any trophy will be made for either of these skills, since you don't have to spend time skilling up if you'd rather just throw money at it.
this is for tobin (hehe) why not add gnomes as fish baits? they small cute and wiggle a lot. bet our fishing success goes up.
dwarf i think would scare off fish. halfing hairy and stinky feet would gag them. yep gnomes be good for fishing bait. or gnome parts.
for the trophy i think it be cool to have standard stats and also summon 5 percent bait one stack at a time (lore no drop) or summon stack of gnome bait lol.
ravenstorm
stormraven (FV server)
ps...none of the gnomes were used for fishing, all were stunt actors....
I think the real reason there is no trophy is that fishing is not really a tradeskill. It has become more and more like one over time, and people consider it one, but it was never intended to be one. I think they originally intended it to be used as a way of getting food, kind of like foraging (no forgaging trophy either). I would love to see fishing become a full blown tradeskill, take away the level cap and give us some stuff to make in tackleboxes that are useful outside the realm of fishing. As for a trophy, I'd be happy just to be able to make a pole that does not break, I don't even care if it has any stats at all.

What, like the blessed fishing rod for the solstice earring?

Um, you effectively can: the Fisherman's Companion.
Lol, this is why I don't especially like message boards. Imagine being attacked by someone like this for a simple post.
First of all I was thinking a full blown tradeskill would have more things available to be made than one item used in one quest. Maybe more along the lines of stat jewelry being made out of fish bones in your toolbox (just an example, I'm sure people could come up with other examples as well). As for the fishermans companion, um... I can't get into the PoV, and um...this is done via a quest anyway, not made using your fishing skill, and um..."effectively" is a long way from having an unbreakable pole, and um... well you get the point. A full blown tradeskill has many, many combines that produce many, many different items for many, many different situations.
I wasn't attacking you at all; I did not know if you were unaware of these items or dismissing them for some other reason, so I posted to clarify.
Fishing supports questers (blessed rod), bakers (prepared fish/fish oil) and fletchers (fish bones for darts). A post of ideas of other useful things that fishers could make could be fun.
FWIW, the Blessed Companion quest does necessitate fishing skill (you have to prepare the fish, trivial 182) in addition to PoV access.
