I Can Fish Without Bait? Whats the Deal

Tonight I was fishing on boat in Abysmal Sea......i realized I did not have any bait in my ammo slot....i had stacks of Fishing Grubs in my backpack.
I was STILL catching things (ie- Crabs and Tuna). I use a Blessed Fishing Rod.....but how is this possible?
Is there no need for any type of bait in my ammo slot? The ammo slot was completely empty and I kept catching.
Does anyone know if we do not need bait in ammo slot anymore?

Bait has never needed to be in the ammo slot. Having it there just means one more inventory spot free in which to store fish.

Your Blessed Fishing Rod will break. its not really for fishing, its for the cabbage quest. If you dont mind losing 800p to 2000p (depending on server) every time your pole breaks then go ahead.

But, for 500p someone will sell you a fisherman's companion in PoK. Then you can summon as many poles as you like by right clicking the item.

Not that I will be able to buy it for a long, long time, but on Allakhzam's site, it said it was a no drop item. Has that changed?

It hasnt changed its the result of a quest.
