Pottery is EXPENSIVE so don't go that route basically ALL the tradeskills can be very expensive, or you need to be high level to get the required components (like tailoring) so if I were you, I would just level up first If you can forage you can do some brewing though.

I dunno aout that "wait till you are higher level" suggestion. That's what people always told me, but I found it pretty easy to skill up a few points as I leveled and as I got extra money. I did all the skills gradually rather than try to raise them all, all at once, when I got to a decent level.

It always comes down to personal preference though. If you love trade skills, there's nothing wrong with doing them while you are low-/mid- level. But yes, at some point it may help to gain some levels so you can farm ingredients for yourself.

Just do what you enjoy, leveling or trade skills, in whatever combination fits your play-style.

I would suggest trying both for a while and see which you like best. You can get to 191 baking with store bought items and without spending an outrageous amount of money. And you can get to 248 brewing the same way, all store bought items that aren’t very expensive. Just make sure not to pass 200 in any trade skill unless that’s the skill you want to take to 250.

For myself, I think baking is a lot more fun. There are all kinds of strange and fun things you can bake. And you can use everything you bake. But after 191 skill baking is a much slower skill to raise than brewing. Brewing is very easy to raise skill in because you don’t have to leave the vendor’s side until after 248. But there aren’t as many fun things to make and they aren’t as useful, until you can make stat drinks at the higher end of the skill.

But in the end it all comes down to what you enjoy doing. So play with the different skills and see which one (or ones) is the most fun for you. As long as you don’t pass 200 skill you don’t have to decide on any one skill to focus upon. And even after you do take a skill past 200, once you hit 51st level you can choose to earn some AA points and take another trade skill over the 200 mark, and another, and another…

brewing to 248 takes <300pp to do, for the last 2 points you need to spend about 500pp on a corker for kaladim constitutionals. I'd say go brewing because KC's and GLM's can make quite a good profit.

The way to stop advancing past 200 in baking would get brewing to 201

One thing not mentioned yet about the baking/brewing question was that with baking at 200+ and brewing stuck at 200 (until AA), you'll be able with a geerlok to brew most recipes that have trivials over 200 such as Grobb Liquidized Meat and Qeynos Afternoon Teas with high success rates.

However, with brewing at 200+ and baking stuck at 200, you will not be making Misty Thicket Picnics. At 207 + geerlok I might succeed 1 out of 20 tries at picnics.

The only brewing over 200 you'll ever have issue with if you didn't choose to GM it are Kaladim Constitutionals, which there really isn't a market for. Same for champagnes.

Is there a particular AA point that allows you to have additional tradeskills over 200? Or is it just the number of AA points one obtains?

It's New Tanaan Crafting Mastery. Costs 3 points for each additional tradeskill to go over 200. There are no prerequisites.

Geerloks are a series of tinkered items that add a 5% bonus mod to your effective skill level for each given tradeskill. There is a geerlok for most (or all, I think) tradeskills. They don't affect skill-ups, just success/failure rates on the combines themselves.

                            My suggestion

                            GM brewing.

Brewing is a rather easy skill to GM, and inexpensive. I know on my server (Torvonnilous) I command about 18-20pp per Kaladim Constitutional and 5-6pp per Grobbs liquidised Meats, and they sell, early and often. The subcombines on Grobb's may be tedious at times (I stopped making them for a while relying on Kaladims to make money) but if you enjoy the repetitive motion while spacing out at the monitor then go for it.

I originally took up Brewing to make some extra plat on the side and make my own grobbs. I got hooked tho and here I am, with all my tradeskills nearing 200. Enjoy, I never once regretted GMing brewing first.
