  • Pricing Tempers, when you are only one selling a particular

There are the tempers for good armor; like Hurricane Temper, Scale temper.

I am confused about the best way to price the these tempers. So far their are only 2 of us selling hurricane Temper or Scale Temper on my server.

The other person way overprices their tempers.

Assuming that much of the time you are the only one selling a paticular item at a reasonable price in the Bazar
It strikes me that 2 factors should influence price.

    1. Cost of ingredients. If you are priced too high the Smith will just make their own or find someone in their guild to make it.

    2. the value of the item being made. If a hurricane Plate BP takes 5 tempers+5 k of other ingredients and you are asking 4k per temper the BP must be worth at least 25k. Few smiths will be making items whose ingredients cost more than the final product is worth.

I started out selling Hurricane temper at 3900, then 3500, then 3000 then 2500; now I have 11 at 2000 and have not sold a single one at this price point in a week. I have sold at least one at each of the other price points and I think 4 at the 3k price point.

My question is how do you price things in the above situation? Do you focus on the current price of ingredients or more on the value of the final crafted item.

If you have sold something at a particular price point, then you either hit a mass market price point, or someone with too much money came along that had to have the item regardless of cost.

Since you have been lowering your prices, and still not selling, it sounds like there is just not enough short-term demand for that item. Unless you need the cash in liquid form, I would pick a pricepoint where you have experienced a moderate level of sales(3k), and will enjoy a moderate profit, and settle in for the long haul knowing that eventually they will sell.

I do this with the silk swatches that I sell. I am not usually the lowest person on the market, but I try to always have 100-200 in stock at a reasonable profit. When someone comes in looking for swatches, and wants the convienence of making a single large purchase, there I am.

Sadly, the fact is that no one who has trained smithing or tailoring high enough to use these tempers is likely to pay someone large amounts of money for making tempers etc.

It is trivially easy to GM brewing compared to getting either of these above 200.

In the particular case of these high end tempers - I suspect you are unlikely to make much above the raw ingredients cost plus a minor premium for having collected them. The majority of tradesmen (and women) who can use them are in guilds where it is not too difficult to get a friend to do the combines if they don't have the skill level themself.

I tend to agree with your competitor. these tempers are most likely sold to someone who has a friend that will make the item 'if you give me the parts.' These people will often pay whatever they need to (within reason) to get them quickly. Its a slow market and relies on you selling at the right time, but provides probably the best return on your investment of time.

Price it reasonably compared to your time and skill needed. Scale temper is still bought a bit on my server, but most PoP tempers dont seem to move at all, regardless of price. Many of the smithed PoP armors are:

a)very lacking in stats for the difficulty of getting the parts(thus no one wants/wears because they can get better drops for same effort)

b)horribly overpriced for any person who wants to buy a piece.

Ergo, if no one buys my overpriced BP, why am I going to buy your temper to make more?
