  • Skill up data: 189 to 200

Did this over the weekend, with a 260 WIS.

    --minotaur hero brew--
    189 - 47
    190 - 81
    191 - 7
    192 - 50
    193 - 34
    194 - 39
    195 - 37
    196 - 57
    197 - 52
    198 - 44
    199 - 3
    200 - 66

517 combines total / average of 43.08 combines per skill up.

The skillup rate for Brewing was over double the number of combines I needed for Baking (avg 20.26). Besides a streak of bad luck with the RNG, is there a particular reason why the average skillup rate was high, compared to Baking?

Each tradeskill has its own code for skill ups, blacksmithing seems to skill up the most often as of lately.

      Baking vs. Brewing Skill ups

I actually ended up getting a skill up rate of approximately 35 combines per skill up going from 200 to 250 baking, so it's not too far off from what you are seeing.

They made store bought skills harder since obtaining the materials is so much easier.

What was your WIS/INT at when you did this? I'm getting frustrated with Brewing, I just parsed my log for Brewing today. I went from 183 to 184 after 473 combines, then hit 185 after another 266 combines. Is it supposed to be this hard? My WIS was at 182.

I was just about to ask about that =/
lately, it's taken me about a stack per skill up in brewing from 150ish to 184, sometimes worse. I got stuck at 182 with three stacks of combines before I got a single skill up and I hear it only gets worse.

255 int at the time. *sigh*

edit: and i hear there's a bonus for having int/wis above 200, but i am in no way completely informed about any of that stuff.

At a 185 skill, I am averaging roughly a skillup every 2 stacks (40 combines {sorry, I'm not overly good at monitoring skill ups or combines per skill ups}). I have a meesly 115 int, and I am working towards grandmastering brewing.

Hope this rough information helps. I'll try logging next time I do brewing for a better measure.

For perspective - At 193 baking I recently made 100 attempts at halas pies....without a single skill up (lots of pies though *sigh*)! I had a similar run in the 190s with JC also ( but since thats just 2 shop bought components its bearable ).

                  150-170

220 combines of minotaur hero brew took me from 150 to 170 skill. I did not use geerlock wanted a +5 wis item in hand instead not worried about successes. Cost me about 20pp after selling successes and bottles back to vendors. Wisdom was at 242.

Why the heck do you get 2 bottles back??? You put in a cask where the heck do they get bottles?

                    Short beer.

                    /shrug

Remember the Faydwer shakers? 4 bottles back there

I hate it myself, for a while there I was just a very efficient empty bottle maker.

Similar runs myself, int does seem to matter. From 226-231 in 140 combines with 255 after KEI, getting from 220-226 was taking me at least 60 each at 231 int. Could have been just luck though.

I haven't kept track really, because I close the skill-up window, and check my skill after 60-80 combines, depending on how much space I had when starting.

That guy who says he did 400 combines per skill-up I am a bit skeptical on... unless he had 40int or something... 1 time is a fluke and it sucks, but 2 or 3 times just seems impossible.

Back in the good ole days

                      To put things in perspective:

Back in the good ole days way back when I was GMing brewing - a young shaman on a young server the best Wis I could manage was in 180-200 range.

Doing MHBs before they made it easier.

Through the 190s - typical skillup rate 60 combines i.e. one per 3 stacks.

2 of those dreaded 190s points took over 300 combines - my record being at 360 attempts - (Yes really 18 stacks to go from 196-197) :x

The change to skillup rates occurred when I was at 227 skill and I couldn't believe how much easier those last few points were.

Interestingly there are still no other active GM brewers on Kane Bayle's market.

Imagine my shock some months later to try my hand at jewelcraft with 253 wis and some cash in the bank. During the duration of ONE KEI I got from 21 to 181 skill spending around 1700pp. NO FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!

what i don't understand is why it wasn't 5 bottles, where did the 3 bottles the malts were in go?

When doing the various tradeskills one after another as many of us are now, you definitely notice differences in skill ups. I agree, brewing appears to be taking more combines/skill than either pottery or baking did by a noticable margin for me at least. And this will be my second go at brewing. WTB new wrist.

one after another, try all of them at the same time. talk about being a broke a$$ Mofo.

oh, lets see, i have 35p today...............think i'll make stack of MTP today.

oh, lets see, got 120p and about 15 Fine Steel weapons on me. Let's make some ornate gold chainmail.

WOHOO, someone donated 15p for a sow, that's another stack or 2 of MHBs

I don't think my bank account has had more than 1kp in it since i started TSing. But then again, i DONATE my warez for KEI and give them to guildmates. I don't have a bazaar mule. (could, just don't).

340 combines has been my record to go from 188 to 189. Then about 20 to go to 190 and then I'm working on a 120 streak right now for 191.
