  • Profit to be had?

Hello, im not exactly a brewer per say. Ive always said I was going to GM tailoring(that was before New Tanaan that is), only got my brewing up to 160s to make those **** heady kiolas and coldain tempers. But as ive chatted in the channel and seen the recipies come out, ive realized how much fun brewing can be, theres such a HUGE varity(like baking).

Because of this ive considered 250ing brewing first and then GMing Tailoring when i get around to earning and saving 3AA. But my main question is, is there much of a profit for brewing, or is it just what i think it is, for fun.

Ive seen Kaladim Consitituionals, Qeynos Afternoons Teas, and Grobb Liquizied Meats, and thought that these could actually be some money makers. Is there any fact behind me thought, or should i just sit back and drink my tea because i enjoy it(hehe, way back when stats were broken, i brewed up a whole bunch of Karana Brown Tea, just so i could be the only one in the guild not drinking booze at our meetings ).

    Any information would be appretiated

If you are considering general items like Kaladim Constitutionals to make a profit you will be very disappointed. Very few reasons I blew the 3 aa and GMed brewing and profit is not one of them (lack of GM brewers on my server and my affinity for Kaladim constitutionals ranked up there though).

Anyways the only profit to be had with brewing are the 9th ring Tainted Avalanche Ale MQs which are profitable, but time consuming. Also the Planar Blood Brew is a decent money maker, but unless you are 60+ and can get a group to kill Sharilugs (sp?) with you don't expect that any time soon.

At least on my server there are a lack of GM brewers so there is always work to be had, as for profit you won't be seeing the money makers like smithing provided (before the blue diamond market crashed) or tailoring, or even Jewel craft (counting planar recipes).

I don't know what the market is like on other servers, but I find that Grobb liquid Meat and the Qeynos Tea brings me a tidy sum, more so on the Grobb meat. For instance, Grobb liquid meat generally costs me 1-2pp each to make whereas I sell it for 7pp each. And when you consider most buy it in bulk, that's not a bad little profit there. However, that being said, Grobb Liquid meat has got to one of the more tedious brews to make. :?

        Profit in Brewing

I think you could make some profit if your server has few brewers on it. I sold Kaladim Constitutionals, QAT, and GLM the first 3 months straight when it came out on my server, after taking a month break I see at least 3-5 players selling them. So, it really depends on the demand and GM Brewers selling them, but goodluck and have fun

          re: Profit in Brewing

I'm not sure what your experiences are, but brewing can make you money hand over fist if you put some effort into it (assuming there's a market for the drinks on your server).

This evening I made a batch of grobb liquidised meat (mmm, meat soda) - 60 combines, 55 successes. I spent roughly 450p on the lot, and came out with 330 drinks - that I've already sold half of at 12.5p each. So, when I've sold them all, I'll have collected 4125p, and spent 450p. Qeynos afternoon tea cost less per roughly the same per combine attempt (assuming you buy the tea leaves), and sell for 20-25p on my server (zeb)... so the profit margin is even larger there.

That may not constitute making money "hand over fist" to some people, but for less than two hours of effort? I'm pretty happy with the results. The impression I've gotten from talking to people is that they use their trade skills to make some good money in their mid levels (30-50+), then afterwards just make food/drink for themselves/friends rather than worrying about the rat race in the bazaar.

I agree... However, if you make them in North Freeport, you never have to leave the same building. And as we all know, Wu's tailoring is not something people like going through. Having the stock on a Bazaar vendor as a one stop shopping selling next to one of the looms in the bazaar can make a nice profit. Sell both Heady kiola and vials of viscous mana and people will buy from you.

Speaking of profit... I skilled up my brewing from 169 to 187 the other night in Shar Vahl making Shar Vahl Essence... First, found I could get a bit over a stack of paela fruit per round of paela trees in the zone, which was helpful since it took a few stacks to get to the triv. So... only cost on these is the stack of water flasks to go with the stack of paela fruit, yet a stack of the essence sells back to vendor there for over 3pp total. I missed a stack when I sold it (have made a couple of the Shar Vahl idols already and the essence is easy enough I'm not worried about finding more if I need it) and sold it to a vendor in PoK and there received over 4pp.

Okay so this isn't mega bucks here, but I'm not used to having a merchant pay me over my costs, and I made 20 or 30pp just for picking up a bunch of groundspawn.

Interesting Tobin, I will try that.

Grobb's used to be extremely lucrative for me when I could get the trader up on my sister's computer, but I came back after a hiatus of heavy schoolwork and found that the people selling the stuff went from two to about six. They had price wars, and drove the price down from 27pp to 7pp. Ignorant people who have probably never seen a supply/demand curve, let alone understood that with the uber folk buying the vast majority of stat drinks/food the price is fairly insignificant and they would have made more money in the long run with a gentlemen's agreement to stay at one price.

Sadly, if you tried buying their stock and pricing it higher, they'd just make more. That's something to consider with afternoon tea and constitutionals (limited extent) though, if it worked they would make their profit, and you'd make an even bigger one. IF it worked.

Of course it's possible that with lower prices and word getting around the non-uber folk will get in and start buying the stuff - considering the duration and the stats, it might not cost them much more than flasks of water.

How much do you guys at the 7ppish area sell per day on average, if I may ask?

SOE will hit that with the Nurf Bat because they have stated that NPC vendors do not provide profit for trade skill items.

Not selling GLMs in the 7p range - but in the 10-12.5p range (I won't drop below 10p). Sold 180 last night, and 180ish the night before. It REALLY hepls to have a mule computer or a buddy with a two box setup...

on my server grobbs has dropped to 4-5pp each, so i dont make them anymore, to some 100pp a stack is a lot of money, but the for amouint of clicking need for the drinkm it really isnt worth my 4 hours of making a large quanity of it. there used to be 3 of us, and now the 3 of us have stopped, and about 7 new people make it.

there is still little profit for qeynos tea selling at 10pp each. and KC's at 20pp each, although people who skill up will sell them for 9-12pp each (which is so dumb, sorry for saying). Most people dont realise this isnt a highly bought drink, no matter what the price.

i make surefall rangers trail juice on the side at 8pp each (have to go lower than the tea or no one will buy it). no one makes this, its a little more of a pain, but people do buy it, mostly rangers and shammys who want the STA / WIS together.

i have made a lot of money, maybe not what the smithers and tailorers make, but enough money to buy most of the droppable gear i want, and what i consider the best for my class that i can get. (still lacking in a couple area's)

edit: you will need a mule, no questions. it takes time to sell them, you arnt going to sell 200 grobb drinks in a day (maybe if you are the only one selling)

My thoughts exactly. I won't sell it under 10pp each ~ just not worth my time at that rate. Other folks have different opinions, so it can be found on Innoruuk for around 6pp each, sometimes less.
