  • Trophy chance?

I just spend two hand cramping days of non-stop combines to get to 248 through minotaur hero brews and fetid essences.

(For the record, I found the BEST place to brew hero brews if you're good aligned is Gukta. Wood Elf Druid of Tunare conned indifferent and the brew barrel was right in the middle of all 3 merchants with the Short Beer, Casks, e.t.c.)

anyhow, I managed to get a tinkerer to make me a corking device. If I blow all of my savings (level 36 druid) I can afford to buy the gems and have my chanter friend mount them. I can do the seal myself. I've a Geerlok for the last 2 levels and can get 223 WIS if I buy a KEI. What're my chances roughly of a successful combine for the trophy?

It is all luck if you can use the plat for something else I would. I have 250 brewing with 265 wis and geerlok device and I have failed twice already . Little easier because I just camp the gems in POG or Seb. I have known people to get it first chance and I no someone who failed 6 times on their trophy.

      Bleh, ouch.

I want a trophy badly. I'd like to get this ugly Small Wisdom Diety outta my ranged slot (hehe).

I've seen two people try to make trophies. Both were successes. I'm curious if anyone's done research for this to find the % chance or how the game randomizes.

Thanks for your input. Hopefully I'll get more people telling me to make a trophy to boost my confidence, heh. I'll probably end up making several fetid essences until I fail a few times in a row so that at least the law of chances are on my side.

Well, I can only tell you how it went with my Wizard.

He went 1/2 for his trophy.

At 248 + Geerlok you're obviously at max possible success rate. Making something is solely bassed on your skill level, not your WIS so there's no need for a KEI just to try the trophy.

At 4300pp per for me, it was downright painful, but I'm glad I've got that trophy.

I would guess the chance of success is under 50%, but can't garantee it either way. Good luck!

          Trophy chances

I tried for my trophy at 250 + Geerlok and was fortunate enough to get it on the first try.

If you have friends who can farm gems in PoG for you, they drop there quite often (I got enough for 2 seals in about 3 hours in PoG). I have been told though that guardians of some sort have been added to PoG so this is no longer a super easy camp for gems. I went there with a 56 Shammy and myself (55 Pally) and we had no troubles. But my shammy friend went back with another shammy one day after the patch and pulled one of the new guardians, and he said before he they knew what was going on, they had 3 or 4 guardians on them and they had to run and gate out with less than 10% health each.

Maybe buying the gems will be the best way after all.

          *** EDIT ***

I did my MHB combines at the bar in Halas as mentioned in another thread. Just as in Gukta, the brew barrel is amongst three vendors who sell all of the ingredients needed.

Not to depress you, but I failed 7 trophies before I got mine. Attempted pottery trophies as I accumulated the 4 gems (I farm gem areas). These attempts were between skill levels 210 -230. I really wanted a trophy, so I put my 3 points into brewing and got to 250. Failed 1 brewing trophy. Waiting on gnome to raise tinker skill a bit more before I attempt that one again. Finally got to 242 pottery and attempted another trophy, I was successful. On a brighter note, my enchanter got her JC trophy at 250 on first try.

It is purely luck whether you are successful or not, if your skill is max effective. Many people get it on their first try in the low 200s, and many people fail repeatedly at 250. If you are 240 + geerlock and can spare the funds, you might as well try. If you are low on funds, you might want to start getting bits and pieces to try at a later time, ie get one gem and get it mounted and then wait for the next gem.

            Whichever you decide, GOOD LUCK!

              0 for 5 on brewing trophy (250+5%, 320 wis)
1 for 7 or 8 on pottery trophy (all but one were 242 skill and up using 5% modifier)
              0 for 1 on jewelry (250+5%, 320 wis)
              1 for 2 baking (250+5%, 320 wis)

I can say from experience that if it costs all the money you have, it isn't worth the risk.

I'd spend the 4k on a few upgrades... make some money, and try the trophy when it wont cost you everything you have.

When I failed my trophy I had 100pp to my name... and wasn't wearing anything at all worth more than the trophy attempt. For an entire month I was broke, spending every penny I had literally to brew stuff and sell it....

I tried it 2 months later when I had made a lot more of a profit from brewing, and had 2 seals and 3 corking devices.... needless to say, now that I could afford it technically, I got it on my first try.

Sold the extra Seal and the extra corking device for more than I paid for them, so it turned out pretty darn good for me .

I got brewing and baking trophys on first try, both at 250.
Took 3 tries to get Jewelcraft at 250.
the Pottery was fail at 235, 2 fails at 240, success at 246.
                  Geerloks used on all attempts.

For skilling up I did my Mino Brews in Thurgadin. Rarely anyone around & all ingredients are close by.

Am I the only person left who is NOT skilling up on Mino Hero Brews? I always skilled up on things I would actually use. I did Grobb's for awhile, till I took the time to get my pottery up enough for Aradors. Now I'm making Surefall Ranger's Juice; when it trivials I'll go back to Grobbs. From there I'll do Qeynos Tea, and then Kaladim's.......

I did the same thing with baking, and as a result I only ended up with a few hundred HMPs, not the several thousand others have reported.

IMO skilling up on sellable goods is bad as it drives down the market. Look at MTPs, Solstice Robes and other skilled up on goods. Solstice Robes for 600ish is just a shame. MTPs for 5pp also a shame. If you want to do a stack or two to sell while you skill up, great, but skilling up on GLM and other sellable brews, will just make them sell for less on your server, and that stinks for everyone.

MHB is quick, easy and cheap. Skilling up on anything else > 188 IMO is just a bad idea.

ah, but I either use it or sell it at the prevailing rate. HMPs I sell at 5pp (started at 8, but they never sold). Grobb's I sell at 8pp (highest anyone has them; if I have room on my merchant I buy out anyone who has them at 3). Acrylia arrows I sold at 5pp. The 200 Lotus pies I made skilling up? 225pp. MTPs are 20pp; Surefall Ranger's Juice is 15 (I've NEVER seen it for sale by anyone else). Now, baking, brewing, and fletching are all consumed items. You wait long enough, and they WILL sell at a reasonable rate, no need for a price war. Not sure what I would skill up on if I was insane enough to tailor or smith.

Ah! But I love this one. Not picking on anyone specifically, I see this line a lot.

You wait long enough, and they WILL sell at a reasonable rate
This is certainly true... However! A great number of people skilling up can't afford to just sit on an item until it eventually sells! The cash they get back from the sales is what they need to continue skilling up! So, they price at the lowest they're willing to sell at, just so they can continue skilling up. ( I don't like it either, but I've been in their shoes before )

Perfect example... HMP on Xegony 2.5 - 3.5 pp, because it's a skill up recipe and you can find thousands in the bazaar at almost any time. There's no reason these should sell so cheaply.

Then there are people like me. One account, on a old, below minimum specs computer, who can only leave a trader up over night. My wife is home during the day, and uses the computer so I can't leave it up then. I'm seriously LUCKY if that trader stays up all night even once a week! I usually go LD for whatever reason. I don't have TIME to wait until something sells Eventually. This means I'm lucky to have my trader up for 2-4 hours a day.

Now don't get me wrong. Even with my limitations, I do have patience, I don't undercut everyone. Mostly I match lowest price, though there are some items I won't sell below a specific price.

It's a complicated world we're living in eh?
