Hey all! I just completed a test of the brewing skill up system...

This was only a test... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

    OK OK, here's the details

    Erudite Wizard
    20th level
    256 INT
    112 CHA

All merchants Indifferent through Faydwer Shakers. Mino's brew was at apprehensive faction. It was the best I could find where the ingredients were all in one zone.

    ***********************************

Fetid Essence (Done in Plane of Knowledge)

    0 - 122 Total Cost 4pp 6gp 7sp 1cp

385 attemtps 126 successes (one skill up per 3.15 attempts)

    ***********************************

Ol' Tujim's Fierce Brew (Done in West Freeport)

    122 - 135 Total cost 5gp 1sp

54 attemtps 43 successes (one skill up per 4.15 attempts)

    ***********************************

2x Brewed 2x Stout Dwarven Ale (Done in Kaladim)

    135 - 142 Total Cost 1pp 3gp 7sp 6cp

32 attempts 30 successes (one skill up per 4.57 attempts)

    ***********************************

Faydwer Shaker (Done in East Freeport)

    142 - 188 Total Cost 32pp 1gp 9sp 8cp

453 attempts 384 successes (one skill up per 9.85 attempts)

    ***********************************

I got to 188 on less than 40 pp plus ONE KEI (50pp donation) so 90PP total.

    ***********************************

Minotaur Hero's Brew (Done in Ak'Anon)

    188 - 200 Total Cost 18pp 9gp 8sp 2cp

263 attempts 150 successes (one skill up per 21.92 attempts)

    TOTAL COST TO 200 57PP 7GP 1SP 7CP

This is the cut off for those who can't exceed 200 for whatever reason.

NOTE!!!!! 2 total KEI's for 90pp also, to the grand total to 200 skill was 148pp.

    ***********************************

Minotaur Hero's Brew (Done in Ak'Anon)

    200 - 248 Total cost 47pp 9gp 5sp 1c

967 attemtps 838 successes (one skill up per 20.15 attempts)

    ***********************************

EDIT! had a couple numbers wrong. I added the mino brew 188-200 into the 200-248 number giving a false # of attempts, and throwing off the "per skill up" average. Also threw off total attempts, and overall skill up average. All fixed.

2154 TOTAL ATTEMPTS (one skill up per 8.61 attempts AVERAGE)

    TOTAL COST 0 - 248 170pp for FOUR KEI's AND 105pp 6gp 8sp 8cp ingredients cost

    275pp 6gp 8sp 8cp overall cost to 248. I'd say that's a pretty good price.

My longest streak without a skill up was 81. Not that bad, all things considered.

I'm trying to decided what to do to get to to 250. Either Demi Sec or Constitutionals. I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible (to contine the study trend). I think DemiSec. I gotta get a corking device for a trophy, and then one to make Liquidised meat as well, but that's for later, it's not part of the study.

This was absolutely the cheapest, yet most efficient way I could come up with, considering every single bit of it was store bought.

I would say get the corking device and do KCs. Cost per combine is far lower.

If you get lucky the Demi-sec will be cheaper overall but if you don't get both skill ups quickly the cost will rise past the corking device pretty quickly (we all know what a cruel and sadistic mistress the RNG is, don't we?).

Since you need the corking device for the trophy and to really be a working brewer the cost is almost mandatory.

Well, after researching Demi-Sec on my server, and realizing the fact that Magnums sell for 40pp, I said the heck with that, and decided to do KC's.

I didn't bother to keep track of cost at this point, but I'm going to go back and figure out raw cost just cause I need to know.

Doing the KC's actually was cheaper, even going 30 combines. that would have bee 1200pp just for magnums if I was making Demi-sec! I know I did it cheaper than that on KC's.

      Kaladim Constitutionals (Brewed in Kaladim)

      248 - 250 Total Cost 186pp 6gp 9sp

30 attempts 15 successes (one skill up per 15 combines)

NEW OVERALL TOTAL 2184 combines (one skill up per 8.74 attempts AVERAGE)

      NEW OVERALL TOTAL COST 462pp 3gp 7sp 8cp

EDIT!!! I added in the cost from 248 - 250, and then the overall price. This is now the 0 - 250 cost

Now, I had a friend make me 2 corking devices (She did it for free. It was the first time she had made anything truely useful with tinkering, so she was exstatic), I paid cost for ingredients only. BD was 262pp (from merchant), Branches of Sylvan Oak were 2pp in Bazaar, I'll verify the rest of the prices tonight. The idea was, one corking device for a trophy (when I can afford it) and one to keep for making stat drinks.

I collected enough mushrooms for 100 attemtps, and got 250 skill on the 30th combine. I did finish the rest for some drinks to sell in the bazaar, so hopefully, I can make some of the investment back. I went 52 for 100 on Constitutionals.

Now I just need to sell 200 KC's, and see if I can recoup any of that total cost. That was fun! Good luck to all you brewers, I'm going to see if making Grobb Liquidised meat and KC's, and possibly Qeynos afternoon Tea are viable ways of making some Coin. I sure could use some.

Great post from start to finish there . Thanks for the figures, I don't think I've seen exact number of combines from 0-250 before. Usually 180-248, 200-248 etc.

As for 30 combines of Kali cost, assuming no-fail it would be as follows approx, if you want to be more specic you can.

        26x5 for Yarrow= 130pp
        1.5x30 or so for CE= 45pp
Cork=Who cares, they give them away.
Bottle=Who cares, aren't they sold by the gross?
        Sodawater= what 3pp for 30?
Groundspawn is only time for the 2 fugi.

So I'd say for 30 combines, if no fails on the expensive yarrow subcombine is approx 180pp.

I don't think I'd inclue the cost of a corking device in there, as it is a tool for the trade, and needed for many combines.

One statement was great for humor though:

The idea was, one corking device for a trophy (when I can afford it) and one to keep for making stat drinks.

          Delfontes,

Pretty **** close on that guestimate!

186pp 6gp 9sp for 30 Constitutionals at my price. Perhaps a bit can be shaved off that, but your 180 guess was pretty close.

          **********************************************

Now I'm researching Cost PER to make for Liquidised meat, and KC's, and eventually Qeynos Tea as well.

          So far per combine

          GLM (yeild 6) 7pp 0gp 9sp 7cp
          KCs (yeild 4) 6pp 2gp 2sp 3cp

Need to research Qeynos Afternoon Tea, and see what Tea Leaves sell for in the bazaar. That might be something I make for my casters and not to sell, depending on the cost of the leaves. *shrug*

            kei worth it?

So..... since KEI was more than half the total cost of brewing (until 248) .... was it worth it?

Just thought I'd point that out

Heh, Trump. I've thought of that.

Without KEI, my INT is 231 on my wizzie. I could probably have gone to 248 skill with a 231 INT for less than 275

However, having done this once, I have no intention of trying that again with a lower INT.

Of course, someone with 255 INT or WIS from gear alone could easily get to 248 for about 100 plat. KEI's would be completely unnecessary. *shrug*

I wasn't thinking about the Aid Grimmil quest. I might just keep some of these constitutionals.

Sigh. One of those I wish I had waited moments. I GMed brewing right before they made it easier. I was averaging one skillup per 60 or so attempts /cry

Even now my wrists won't let me forget it.

Good work on the stats btw.

                    gm brewing

i had sporadically worked my brewing up to 169, just doing whatever i had the ingredients for, whenever i had the time or inclination... however, 4 days ago, i decided to GM it. I went to freeport and started on the Faydwer shakers (never go AFK there in dog form.. two wandering barbarians WILL kill you). i got to 186, and called it good enough. I moved to Halas and started on mino hero brews. brewing less than 4 hours per day and taking time out to port guilies, rescue guildies, and log in my pally for rez detail, i hit 201 the first night. i brewed for less than an hour the second night, reaching 214, in 3 hours the next night, i hit 244, less than half an hour the next saw me to 247 (husband wanted to go to the store, go figure) in 45 combines the next day i reached 248.

i bought enough ingredients for 60 combines each time i bought, and just restocked on casks when i ran out. i averaged 1 to 5 skillups every 60 combines, depending on that dang RNG.

my price... i payed less than 75pp to get there.

my wis... 231 wis, usually forgot to get c3 before i went.

my geerlok..nope, not until i was ready to do my trophy combine.. and then i forgot to put the silly thing on. had a success anyway tho =)

                      135-142: 34 combines, 26 successes, 4.86 combines per skill-up
                      142-188: 488 combines, 385 successes, 10.61 combines per skill-up

This is the road I have taken... trying to decide now what to do next. DEF Necro with 252 Int w/ KEI

I first started brewing to be able to make tempers for my smithing, but in the end continued skilling up Heady Kioal --> Fish wine --> Faydwer Shakers (but that lasted only a few stacks-- Oy!) --> MHB (since I really didn't care as long as I got skill ups) did MHB till about 180 --> GLM, my cleric is a GM baker so the meat was easy enough.... so far I am up to 207... btw, might be just me, but the skill ups are MUCH more easy than Baking were... not to mention that GLM sells like hotcakes at 100pp stack, so at least I can make some pp for the pp sink that smithing is
