I don't have to look it up to tell you. It is only purchaseable in Cobalt Scar, from one of the Othmir vendors. Best bet if you aren't a porting class is to bribe a druid or wizard to go get it for you.

One of the cute otter people sells this in Cobalt Scar. The trick is getting past the dragons so you can jump off the cliff and onto the beach. If you have good enough CoV faction you can walk past the dragons. If you have ally faction with the Coldain Dwarves in Thurgadin then you have good enough CoV faction. If you have not been killing giants and dire wolves in Great Divide then you still have a couple of options. You could ask a friend who does have good faction to pick some up for you. Or you could try to get some yourself anyway. Find a wizard or druid with the Cobalt Scar port and have them cast invisibility and levitate on you before you port. Once there run to the edge of the cliff and jump off. If you can’t gate out you’ll need to arrange for transport back as well.

On the bright side, the brown algae is cheap. So you can buy several stacks without too much financial difficulty.

        Best of luck.

          Actually

It's listed in both the baking and the brewing supplies pages under Cobalt Scar. As others have mentioned, if you yourself aren't a porter, you'll probably need one to get there Most times, they'll be willing to accompany you to the vendor and back if you need invis and can't provide your own.

From the port ring, turn right and move forward until you reach the cliff. You can levitate down, jump and take damage, or look for the path leading down. Once you get to the bottom, face the cliff. The Othmir all the way to your left near the end of the beach will have the brown algae. I recommend you get at least a backpack full.

Just a couple little things to add to the last post.

Don't go farther than the Othmirs down that beach, some nasty KOS to all things are there, Bulwar I think are the names....

While hunting Wyverns I was trained by 2 of these, after nuking it for full damage and estimating 5k hitpoints, I gated.

Also, it is easiest to get Lev before porting, then beeline over the cliff. On most servers the Wyverns are permacamped and wont be in your way.

              Price check on brown algae?

So, how cheap is cheap? I'm trying to con a guildie with porting ability to take the trip for me, and I want to make sure I give her enough to cover a backpack full or so... (hopefully I can afford it - a good deal on some new WIS gear just about drained the bank )

It’s been a while since I bought any of the algae, so I can’t remember exactly how much they cost. But I do remember they’re less than a gold each. At least they were for my druid. Naturally that price changes depending on charisma and faction. And make sure your friend knows exactly which algae you want, as there’s more than one. A wizard friend bought me my first stacks and he bought the wrong thing the first time. I felt really bad when I asked him if he could make another trip.

                  Cost

I can't recall, because it's so negligible I don't even notice the cost. I'd be willing to bet it's less than a plat per stack. Unfortunately, they're not listed in the Tradeskill Prices section of the main site here. Also not listed at Alla. I'd say give your guildie 10PP, have her grab 10 stacks for you, and let her keep the change.

Yeah, I checked both the supplies page and Alla, but couldnt find any info, so thats why I asked!

Great! Thanks for all the good (and quick!) advise. I'll send her off with enough money and I'll be sure to be real specific! Now hopefully there will be a good Coldain Temper market on Tallon Zek so I can recoup some costs of skilling up
