I wrote this guide because I recently completed the Journeyman Brewer Trophy quest. In my travels to gather the required elements, I found myself criss-crossing my own path many times, and generally running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I am hoping that my experience will help others who come behind me from having the same troubles.
First is the shopping list:
Collection
Before you begin, it would be a good idea to hit up the bazaar and see what you can get. It will save you a bunch of time. Also, check some of the venders in the general areas where the items are found in case someone has found and sold the items.
I have grouped items together in a logical manner so that items can be collected in an efficient manner, although the groups can probably be done in any order.. All destinations begin in PoK. Some of the destinations are a bit out of the way, so I would recommend padding your shopping list just in case you have failures. Lastly, Ice of Velious can drop off pretty much anything, keep it if you find one.
1. Take the Paineel book to Toxxulia Forest. Run a short distance west and drop a fishing line in the water. Catch the Greengill Salmon. Next, head towards Erudin, and on your way, kill spiders for their Spider Legs. You may happen upon a plagued/diseased rat, keel him for his Infected Rat Liver (if you do not, don’t worry, you will get to a better spot later). Also grab your Rats Ears if you happen across them. Once in Erudin, take the translocator to Erud’s Crossing. On the island, run around the top of the ‘volcano’ and kill Kherra Snakes for their Seahorse Roa (there are other creatures that are supposed to drop it too, but I got all mine off the snakes). Head back to PoK.
2. Take the Ak’Anon book to Steamfont. Make your way to the dragon bones (near the windmills) and keel everything in sight, including the plague rats, until you get the Infected Rat Liver. Grab the Rat Ears if you haven’t already got them. I found mine on some Young Plague Rats that traveled along the wall near the back. After, make your way to Lesser Fay, and begin looking for Pixie Pranksters for their Pixie Dust. If you are faction conscience, be aware these give –pixie faction. Also, there are fairies in the area that could be mistaken for pixies who also give –fairy faction. Just so you know. After, continue to GFay, take a right in the zone to the PoK book.
3. Make your way to Cobalt Scar (there is an alignment stone in the GH that takes you there). Drop a fishing line in the water and fish until you get a Dragon Bay Snapper. Head back to PoK. Yes, this trip kinda sucks…but there is that cool Othmir music to jam to while you fish!
4. Make a trip to Broodlands, and kill things. It seems like most anything can drop Steaming Water. Once done, head back to PoK
5. Take the Great Divide book and head to Thurgadin. When you enter Thurg, go straight in and once you come to the main T in the road, straight ahead is the place. Go downstairs and buy Melted Glacier Whiskey from Durgin Bottlenip. Head back to PoK.
6. From within the GL, take the Magus to Nedaria, then the other Magus to Abysmal Sea. Head to the bar area where the Brew Barrel is. Bring lots of empty bag space. From Dray Cuves, purchase: Carrot, Lettuce, Turnip, Elvin Wine, Dwarven Ale, Mead, Brandy, Water Flask, Gnomish Spirits, Short Beer. From Galidnus Corkpopper, purchase: Barley, Cask, Hops, Rice. From Ordin Wheasley, purchase: Cup of Sugar, Lemon, Spices, Celandine Herb. The remaining items can be purchased from here, but the ship is not the easiest to navigate, so I returned to PoK for the remaining items, and for the combines. Bank was a bit more accessible as well. The Soda can not be purchased in Abysmal Sea, so either grab it when you are in PoK, or you will have to return to PoK at this point to complte the combines.
7. Starting in the Western Trader builder, purchase Celestial Solvent from Darious Gandrel, Dark Elf along wall. Next, buy Fishing Bait from Ramos Jarwin near the pool. Then, purchase the Scent of Marr from Loran Thu’ Leth upstairs where the poison venders are. On to the vender straight out from the little bank, purchase the Soda from Cadin Zharik. Lastly, on to Tabben Brommel for the Cork. He is on the second floor of the smithing building in the SE trader building.
Assuming you have acquired your foraged items and got lucky and found an Ice of Velious, you are now ready to make some alchohol!!
Tips for making combines
First, combine the Faydwer Shaker. The combines return the Shaker, AND 3 4 bottles per combine. These bottles will be used in other combines (I figured this into the shopping list).
Next, make the Gnomish Spirits. The combine yields 2, 1 of which you turn in, and the other is used in other combines (also something I figured into the shopping list).
The rest of the combines can be done in any order. Some combines will yield more than you need for the trophy. Some subcombines return items that are not needed, for example, the Greengill Salmon returns Green Gill Bones as well as Prepared Green Gill. The prepared Green Gill can be used in a baking recipe. While we are on the Greengill Salmon, be SURE to use the Fillet Knife, and not the Skinning Knife. They both combine but the Skinning Knife does NOT return what you need (go, go, Gadget Rocket Powered Road Trip back to Toxxulia…YAY!!)
