  • Hangover cure recipe?

If you talk to Logan Grimm in the Buried Sea, one of the quests he offers is called Hair of the Dog. (Link to the quest at Alla's; it's part of the Jonas hand aug quest series.) The introductory text you get in your quest window is:

Logan heard of a great recipe for a hangover cure. Egg, spices, some Oyster sauce, spiced sauce, ground pepper, rum, and dog hair. He has all he needs but the dog hair. Collect some dog fur for him.
The first step of the task is "Loot 4 Dog Hairs from blacksail hounds" (in the Buried Sea).

Could this be a sneaky way of informing us about a new recipe?

It could easily be a reference to one of the recipies Brodder made that never quite made it into the game (at least, we haven't found it yet). It started off as Brodder's Revenge (Hair o' the Dwarf what bit ye), which HAS been discovered, but isn't the hangover remedy that it once was.

Whether or not it is referencing an actual recipie, though... I dunno.

Dog Hair (the type used in the quest) also doesn't have a tradeskill tag.

Despite this, I do think it sounds like a valid recipe. Somehow the naming of the specific sauce (spiced sauce) sounded awfully planned out to me.

A few things come to mind if this is a real recipe:
      • What egg?
      • What rum?
      • Any cask?

      I tried a combine with:
Snake Egg + Spices + Jug of Oyster Sauce + Spiced Sauce + Ground Pepper + Bottle of Rum + Dog Hair

      This didn't combine.
Then I tried it with Aviak and Basilisk Eggs instead.

      As far as eggs go:
I'd assume snake eggs, basilisk eggs or aviak eggs are the most likely since they are all dropped in the TBS expansion. I'd start with them.

      As far as rum goes:
There are a variety of different rums with tradeskill tags available from Sid Hacke and I figured these would be a good place to start. I choose the 'Bottle of Rum' because it was the most simple of the rums. Granted, a whole bottle seems like a lot for a hangover cure but... maybe that the secret!!

Light Rum, Dark Rum, Rotgut Rum (all from the TBS expansion) do not have tradeskill tags.

There is an 'Ounce of Rum' somewhere in the game from a previous expansion but I'm not personally familiar with where to find it.

All in all, I probably won't chase this down too much since I'm already well behind on about seventeen other commitments at the moment. If anyone on Luclin wants dog hair, just PM me -- I'll be glad to give you mine. I'll try to participate in this thread as much as possible, but just don't have a whole lot of extra time at the moment.

      Cheers and Good Luck!

Yeah, the very specific wording is what made me wonder. It's not just spices and sauce, it's "spiced sauce", plus spices, plus "some Oyster sauce" (note the capital O).

Here is a Lucy list of every item with "dog" in the name. A few of them jump out at me as candidates, besides the very obvious Dog Hair that the quest uses. Most notably dogbane, used in poison-making, and a variety of Dogwood tree-like items from the ranger epic 1.5.

The list of items with hair in the name is much longer. Nothing jumped out at me from that list.

It's also noteworthy that while folklore calls for the "hair of the dog that bit you," dogs in general don't have hair. They have fur. So, in the interest of completeness, here is the much longer list of items with fur in the name.

I'd include wolves in that search as well. Tuft of Dire Wolf Fur, for example.

I'd just simply consider dogs myself. (shrug) there were several in game that aren't really monsters, but probably could be pick pocketed, or their areas foraged (for fallen fur?) or maybe now attackable, but they might belong to someone you don't want to piss off by attacking his dog (factions?) just for a drink ingredient? These are just guesses, not clues.
