  • Brodder's diaries completed

And all three books come with one completion.

It's quite a lot of text; if there's a way to get it other than copying by hand, I'd really like to know.

First book, first recipe, for the time being:

    (paraphrase)
legumes, possibly from Faydwer druids; brodder picks coffee

    Excerpting the recipe:

"Two handful of beans ground and then steeped in hot water. Added to Gnomish spirits and honey or a good sugary syrup of equal measure. 2 cups of sugar per flask of water in a pot will make a decent sweet syrup. Mix and strain out the grounds and store in a dark bottle.

"Catbik says it's good with milk and an extra shot of gnomish spirits."

Post in tibbets, cut and past from notebooks what ever.

You actually posted more than one recipe there...paraphrased.

We don't track the actual texts of books, so we won't be needing that anyway. What we need are confirmed items, recipes, sources, and the like. Punting this to brewing for discussion.

          I give up

Well, I tried my best on this one, but cannot make it.

First I ran all over LFay and GFay to see if there is some new Bean or Legume for sale anywhere. Check many merchants, checked the druid ring... nothing. Also, did not forage any beans the whole time. So, I decided to just try the old Generic Coffee Beans. I beat those poor little beans to death! I tried every possible combination of GCB with water or steaming water using 1 or 2 sacks of beans. All DNC. Then I thot maybe I need to grind these beans first, so I tried 1 or 2 beans in Mortar & Pestle but DNC. Also DNC in Mixing Bowl. Then I tried to bake the stupid beans in an oven. !, 2, or 3 beans in oven DNC. Threw in water or steaming water and still DNC. OK, I give up Either these are the wrong beans, or I am way off in thinking...

Decided to move on to part 2 of recipe and did figure that out.
Sugar syrup = 2 cup of sugar + water flask in Oven.

Then I tried every possible combination of 1 or 2 GCB with Sugar syrup and Gnomish spirits with and without water/steaming water. Adding a bottle also DNC. So, I drank the milk and camped

Posted the Sugar syrup recipe under TSS new stuff. Will give some info to get others started under Brodder's post...

The brief tale of Ashwith's foray into this quest so far:

The reference to "Anyway I hied myself off to the druids of Faydwer to see about collecting all sorts of legumes for my work" had me checking every treehugger I could think of.

I ran into castorbeans in Lesser Fay, sold by Anelia Thrywiel. (And I'll grant you that Anelia is a rogue, and I think those are rangers... but who can really tell??) The castorbeans would traditionally have been used in poisonmaking but I'm not sure that the things Broder describes are all that different from poison! (winks and ducks!)

Since the very next paragraph mentions "steeping the cofeee beans" -- it seems more likely that generic coffee beans are the beans of choice, but... I'm not sure how that ties into Faydwehr. I'm also a little mind-blown by Broder's second book where he eludes to three different colors of beans.

I'm going to play with some combines in a bit and see if I can turn castor beans into castor oil or some such and if I succeed, I'll let you know here.

Just basically adding my two cents that I haven't had much luck on this yet either. Perhaps we just need to wait for the Ogre to ... find some alcohol! Or perhaps, PERHAPS, castor oil is the real reason you never see a constipated dwarf after a long night of drinking.

                  Cheers!

Do not confuse the recipes please.
Each was stepped out in order in the stories.
If bugs exist let house ogre know.

As for where to find beans, or coffee beans I can't say- but if no one figures it out by december I'll start posting hints ala hotsauce that eventually got put in.

With Ngreth's permission. (even I am clueless to some points of my own stories...)
