I was just wondering if I could get confirmation on the loss of the champagne magnum when you make champagne.

Yes, the magnum gets used in each attempt of the champagne.

I just wanted to note this, to make sure you understood - it's lost on each *attempt* to make champagne. So even if you fail, you lose the magnum. It's not like other brewing recipes where if you fail you still get the bottle/cask/whatever back. It's an expensive thing so I wanted to make sure you knew that.
