  • New Idea to go with my last brewing stories...thoughts?

    In Faydwer and Antonica (one available to good races another for neutral and evil).

    Suggest rivervale near Runnyeye on Far side of the wall where trees are cut down for Antonica. (requiring a run through runnyeye for evil races) for one location.

    Butcher block near chessboard near the hut in the far corner or near ridgeline there.

    What ye ask?

    A Greenhouse.

    Need two new tinkered device- Catbik's Seed Seperator. And Catbik's Mulcher/Portable Garbage disposal (safer than having an Ogre in tow, as the Mulcher-Disposal won't nibble on your toes when you're napping.)

    Insert a foraged drop and press button. Output one juice/pulp and a packet of seeds. (should only work on things that can have seeds, ie berries, veggies, but not roots or tea leaves).

    Add a caretaker to the greenhouses and several quests (give two factions, local faydwer faction(s) and one for the Greenhouse caretaker.

    1- first quests involve getting pots and soil.
    2- quests involve getting purified water or making it.
    3- Quests collecting fertilizer based on Zones. Need shovel (has some charges), forage or kill mobs in area and use new drops (guts, meat, bones, leaves, fungus etc) in mulcher disposal to make XXXX zone dirt.
    4- Once you have enough faction with Greenhouse owner she'll ask you to collect plant specimens, cuttings and get her seeds. Here she/he asks player to goto Akanon or find a tinkerer to make a seed seperator. (this would include a second use for dragon fertilizer ie droppings that the goblins of lavastorm collect or Lord Nagafen tries to bomb you with (lava storm or about antonica/or you collect in the dragon lairs)
    5- Use seed seperator to gather the seeds she needs for her greenhouse.
    6- use her map to find the plant cuttings she needs too.
    7 Turn in a box of seeds (8 random seeds for rare forages in other zones of Norrath) to caretaker of the new greenhouses.

    8- Get a nice Greehouse Helper badge.
    9- Once you do this quest this allows you to buy the rare forages in her greenhouse shop (in limited quantities) that refresh everytime someone completes the quests again or over time.

    This will give non-foraging classes a second source for cooking and brewing for foraged and ground spawn fruits veggies etc.
    There could be a shroom shack here too requiring mulch waters and fungus spores (using actual shroom's picked up). Dwarf shroom farm might not be happy, but it will open up another merchant source if quests are followed.

    He/ will also pay for forages collected by others players and offer then for resale too to general public (only buys stuff needed for baking/brewing that's plant-fungus related- not meats or fish.)

    Thoughts?
    Refinements?
    Suggestions?

    Backstory two academics making bet that they can grow rare items in their lands better than they grow in the wild. who ever has the most bountiful greenhouse wins the bet and both are willing to enlist the help of players to get an edge over their opponent.
    (they even are willing to give out sabotage missions later too perhaps?)

    Not sure about the juice/pulp output because there are already brewing recipes for juices. Perhaps the juice/pulp is just lost in the process of extracting the seeds.

    Interesting idea.

    Need forages to do a quest to get a merchant to sell you forages?

      Basically you get a forage or buy it, or dig up a sapling, plant etc and process the fruits/veggies for seeds.

      This means for doing quest once you get to buy xx amount in stock from her thereafter. You can do more quests to be able to shop for more afterwards.

      This lets folks who don't forage have steady access to rare zone forages if the caretaker is supplied with waters, soil, mulch, fertilizer etc.

      These quests unlike any I've suggested before would have a lot of initial legwork to them, unless you have a friendly forager and the right drops and get the seed extractor and mulcher and collect the fertilizers they need.

      But I'm sure you all can streamline them here so we can get soemthing viable for players as an alternative.

        I see foragers doing this as well. Hell go to Vendor X in zone Y and buy the foraged components instead of spending hour(s) in random zone Z foraging. Would have to be a hefty price on them to make foraging still a viable choice, or rather limited supply on vendor.

        I do like the idea of limited supply and a refreshing method similar to the way the vendor in PoK/Bazaar with smithing supplies, forget name, where you ahve to take them unrefined ore to restock their supplies.

          That's the idea, if player wants more items from Greenhouse merchant then they need to do one of the resupply runs.

          This means other players can't be stopped from doing a quest themselves and getting flagged and being able to buy rares too.

          IT's a means of supplying brewers and bakers with a one stop shop for some veggies plants and fungus and fixing Faydwer/Antonica factions.

          In this case rivervale and Den Mum in antonica or dwarven in faydwer fixing faction too.

          Both should be mirrors of each other, but depending on which seeds, fertilizers mulches and waters they get will flesh out their larger supply caches and what the people can buy.

          It'd definitely be a company shop and be more expensive than vendor diving, but it offers convenience.
          The merchant would also buy forages at merchant.

          But there is a possible exploit of someone doing the quests and turning in the seeds coming back in a few game days and buying the rares again and making more seeds over and over so they have an unlimited supply of rare forages.

          Supplies bought from the merchant should not be resellable and maybe be of the seedless variety that will work perfectly in any recipe but just have a flag that prevents their use in the seeder tinkered item. I'm all for them being tradeable, for economy and mules doing the quests to fix faction to open up more zones and cities to them allowing items to be traded through banks and on Bazaar merchants.

          But they should be seedless variety or marked as Greenhouse grown which allows them to be used as a replacement for the dropped/foraged/gathered versions, but not to be recycled into the seed processor.

          THey can be used in the mulcher/disposal unit though. Be a waste, but it'd work. (any 5-6 different ingredients can make an organic wet mulch) perhaps a recipe to bake this at a low triv to make dry mulch/fertilizer.

          Would need regional mulch/fertilizer recipes based on fauna, plants and critters of a region. You can use any humanoid meat, blood, waste from a zone. For faydwer that'd mean orcs, wasps, pixies, animals, elves etc. But no need to lose faction and killing orcs never bothered anyone except the orcs. (grin).

            I liked teh froggie Forager in Gukta who would go out ands wander around the swamp, and when he came back he would have a refreshed (but limited) supply of snake eggs and a coupel of other items.

            IMO every city zone should have had a Forager that did that, with perhaps a quest ("I need a new gatherin' bag, youngster, this one is gettin' worn and the stuff I gather tends to fall out through the holes in the bottom. Bring me one and I can go out gatherin' some more") to trigger them to go out and wander and resupply themselves.

            Ex:

            -In Greater Fay there could have been a Forager (wood elf) that would have a few cinnamon sticks, sylvan berries and morning dew...

            -near Kael there could have been a Forger (giant) that would have a few Yew leaves and such (have to have good giant/Kael faction!)

            -ETC

            ~~~
            A greenhouse tender with a resupply quest would be fun too. Although I always felt the farms in teh Karanas needed to grow some stuff....
            quest could consist of obtaining and handing in:
            -farming/gardening tools (a shovel!)
            -seeds / cuttings / plant samples
            -making clay pots to grow stuff in...
            -fertilizer (aready existing: fungus compost, owlbear dung, netherbian nitrite, - plus possible new ones: dragon dung, fishheads...)
            -soil samples: peat moss, clump of wet sand, earthy loam {currently no drop but could be changed maybe?}, etc)
                Ideas:
                Banana (has to be the most common fruit still not in EQ), can be made into banana cream pie, banana ice cream, splits, and shake.
                (Marr) cherry, banana, blueberry, pineapple, lime, lemon, orange makes a nice punch. Add soda water or aerated mineral water to make fizzy punch.
                Also I think you should find a way to slip in banana peels (pun intended) as a throwing weapon with a chance to proc 6 sec stun.
