  • What stat gives u more success rate? (like str in smithing)

Of course I know that whichever is higher, wis or int, makes u learn the skill faster. But I have heard that in some skills, success rate depends not only on skill lvl, but also on some stats. For example, in smithing, a very strong smith will succeed more often than a weak high elf. This IS true, isnt it? And if the smithing part is true, then is there such a stat that affects brewing? So if i make a mule solely for the purpose of brewing, should I put points into or buy things for him other than int/wis?

P.S. you can only take ONE tradeskill over what? 200, or is it 100? (Sorry this doesnt really fit with brewing SPECIFICALLY ... )

There is no known stat other than wis/int that affects brewing. If I recall correctly, there are more tradeskills without a secondary stat that affects skillups than those with--I think only smithing, jewelcraft, and fletching have secondary stats, could be mistaken though.

You can only take one tradeskill over 200. All others are capped at 200. If you own PoP, you can level to 51 and for 3 AA points per tradeskill, you can take an additional skill over 200.

I can say for sure than neither wisdom or int effects success when brewing.

I've brewed with a 40 int after drinking down my previous products, and still have the same success rate.

I can't walk in a straight line, or see the brew barrel clearly... but man can I mix up another batch

The problem with low level brewing is trivial isn't trivial.

Heady Kiolas when I was exactly at trivial (46) used to fail 40% of the time consistantly, I'd get 12 from a stack of 20.

Starting at 100 skill in brewing I've had strings on Kiola of 60-70 successes in a row.

Failure rate is probably 5%, but I love the times when i go thru a stack of ingredients and don't have any extra empty bottles.

      P.S. Only 1 over 200 btw, I've got 3 over 100, brewing at 226.

VI has stated in various forums/fan faires that the only thing that affects success is your skill and any skill modifiers (geerloks, etc.)

Your chance at a skillup is determined by the higher of Int or Wis. For some skills, such as smithing, there is a third stat which can be substituted for Int or Wis. So a smith with high Strength will also increase her chance for skillups.

Brewing has no similar stat. Brewers must rely on Int or Wis to skillup.

I strongly recommend getting either your Int or Wis to 255 if you plan on becoming a GM. The rate at which you skillup will be DEPRESSINGLY low if you don't.

I am a wood elf bard that, as a newbie, foolishly put 5 points into Int when I created this character. Having far too much time invested into my pride and joy by the time I found out that this was a mistake, I continued on anyway. Even with that extra 5 points, my base Int is still only 80.

Amazing as it sounds, I scrounged up enough gear to get my Int to 255. It really wasn't that hard and I am sure I spent about 4k or less to do it.

Bards have a unique advantage here over other melees and hybrids, as the lvl 44 bardsong, Cassindra's Elegy, stacks with Kei (you DID go get Kei before working on skillups, right? ). With this spell/song combination you can get a good 40 points or something like that.

there any point to putting effort into skillups past 240? I've been hearing that the maximum total skill with modifiers for an attempt is 252, so at 240 plus geerlok, your effective total is 252 and there's no use in getting any higher than 240 really.

                Stats modifier

                Hi!

Since Zephaus is talking about modiferS, Is there any other modifier to brewing that the geerlok?

Will do a lot of brewing in the next weeks or so...

                Thanks for any answers

Have looked through the site and cannot seem to verify this one way or the other...

They do say smithing skillups can be determined by strength.

For some reason my brain wants to say that fletching skillups can be influenced by dexterity or agility, but I have NO idea where I got that from.

And what would jewelcraft be? Dexterity comes to mind, but that is ONly a guess on my part.

                  Does anyone really know?

Alternative stats for skill ups in various tradeskills

As mentioned above some tradeskills have a third stat (other than WIS or INT) which can be used to determine your skill-up rate (so rather than the higher of WIS or INT being used, it's the highest of the 3 that is used). In no cases does this third stat have any affect on your success rate, other than improving your chance to skill-up on non-trivial combines if it is the highest of the 3 stats (and greater skill gives you a greater chance of success in the long run...).

                    To date they are:
                    Smithing - STR
                    Fletching - DEX
                    Jewelcrafting - DEX

It has been mentioned that DEX may eventually be implemented as a third stat for Tailoring as well, but that has not been confirmed as a live change.

                    Hope that helps,
