  • The RNG gets revenge.....

    A bit of background info...

A while ago I posted that I went for my 8 Soft Fur padding combines for the Shawl quest and garnered 3 skill-ups in Tailoring. I happened to be very excited about that.

Anyhow, I am currently sitting at 191 for Baking and it was starting to drive me a bit mad that it was a nice shiny 200 like some of my others. So, I decided I would try some of those Misty Thicket Picnics to try and finish it off (not to mention decent eats for a dwarven cleric).

So, I run around gathering supplies and doing the subcombines and all that fun stuff. I then proceed to grab a KEI to get my WIS to 255.

After 240 final combines for MTP - 0 skill-ups. That's right folks, a big goose egg. Needless to say I was a bit angry. You would think 1, maybe 2 skill ups, but nope, not to be done.

And just for reference, my WIS was 255 for almost the entire time. But halfway through I switched to using my Geerlock and my WIS dropped to 254 in the hopes of getting a few successes so at least I can eat.

I got 11 successes total out of that 240 combines.

Looks like it's my turn for revenge on the RNG next.....

If you want to reach 200 I have the following three suggestions:

    1. Ohoboah truffles (202)

    2. Pixie Powdered Cinnasticks (202)

    3 Halas Meat Pies. (226)

If I had to go with one of these choices I would pick 3. HMP is a lot of trouble in making with all the combines required, but they will give you skill-ups and you can also sell them to make up the cost as well as give you a small profit.

MTP's for your skill level is nothing but trouble and annoyance.
I am currently at Baking 211 and INT 232...successes are rare and skill-ups are very, very rare. (I hopefully get one skill-up out of 180 combines which is my usual work-load)

    285 - Fletching
    282 - Tailoring

I've had great luck on picnics. Did 600 combines, went from 200 to 236 skill and have around 400 picnics to sell.

Heh..I guess the difference here lies in the insignificant difference of INT 232 and WIS 330 = 98 points..

I figured a less-than-godlike WIS or INT and in that case I do believe HMP's are better. I made them at INT 215 and got a skill-up every so often between 180-200.

Hehe, at that same 330 wis... I just did 100 picnics with 0 skill ups.

          *sigh*

last 90 got me 3 skill. So overall 790 combines for 40 points.

hmmm I wonder how much WIS has to do with skill up rate. Two of you have over 300 and got much better numbers than me. At 290 WIS I am at 682 combines and have gained 17 points (203-220). I was under the impression that WIS just helped decide success rate.

Anyhow, hope you make out better next time Galadaan.

Heh..Out of my last 600 combines I have gotten 8 skill-ups with an INT of 232.

But every time I get so frustrated I want to smash my computer I also think..."If it was easy everyone would be a Gm Baker"

However, last night I gave in to the dark side and bought a Geerlok automated baking tool...and I love it!

I gave up a total of 4 INT to instead get a +5% on my skill..and my success rate skyroofed! Instead of every 15th or so..I now get a sucess every 6th or so.

Results are in, grand total on 971 Picnics to go from 200 to 250, 19.4 combines per skill up.

Removing the worst (112) and the best (1), makes it 858 for 48, or 17.9 combines per skill up.

I always feel removing the 2 at extreams yields a more accurate average

ugh, I don't even want to talk about HMP's. Made 240 without 1 skillup point. That's just nonsense.
At this rate I am not sure how many I would need to make to get to 226.

Let's see, I'm at 191 now, 20 Misty Picnics, 240 pies and 24 Holy cakes without a skill up point. So I"m assuming I'd probably have to do near 8000 final combines, not to mention all the sub-combines, just to get to 226.
Ok, probably not that many, but this is just ridiculous to have to make this many difficult items without the skill raised.

                    Ok, crying off now.
