    What is your skill at?

And personally, MTPs make my eyes bleed as well. Not to mention I have it on very good authority that they are really crappy for skill ups.

So what I do is get ahold of any PoP baking drops I can get my hands on. Farming them myself, buying them off vendors if I am lucky enough to find them, and having friends help me with gathering them when they hunt (most of my stuff comes this way *hugs* Netura). If you have a forager who can get into Justice forage Justice Fruit for pies. If you are flagged for PoS or can get 55 soonish fish Storm Salmon if your skill is below 202-216. If you have a tank friend who doesn't mind killing a few hours with you farming, head over to LFay and farm brownie parts from the brownie fort (don't bother with the roaming scouts they drop NO parts whatsoever) to make Holy Cake.

For some reason, i have this sneaking suspicion that there is no 'factor' specific to a particular combine that modifies the chance of skillup.

I mean as long as its not trivial, you have the same chance of skillup (provided the same int/wis/dex/str/whatever) on Item_A as you do on Item_B.

If you get 1 skillup on 20 combines of Item_A and 1 skillup per 30 combines on Item_B, im pretty confident that theres someone out in Everquest-land that got 1/20 on Item_B and 1/30 on Item_A.

Hate to derail this and this is as far as it gets so far as my replies on this topic but let me give you an example of the skill up rate of MTPs vs PoP or other combines.

A friend gave me 27 Jord meats and 7 boar meats today. That started my baking binge for today. It took about 18 pies to skill up to 240 then the 9 pies remaining and like 3 boar chops to skill up to 241... Me being my glutton for punishment self decided since I had picnic baskets banked and had just brewed some jumjum beer last night with my hubby's druid to skill her up that I would make some MTPs....

It took me the last 4 chops and 99 MTPs to skill up to 242. Took me about 59 to skill to 243 and took 71 to skill to 244. No other combine I do besides MTPs have that large of a skill up ratio. None.

So IMO I think we can't figure out the RNG for the simple fact that it doesn't just go off your stats and the triviality of the item but because each item has it's own rate factored into it. Just like each item has it's own success rate factored into it in addition to a persons skill level determines production. If they didn't then if MTPs and say holy cakes had the exact same trivial then you should be able to produce just as many of each doing the same number of combines.

Like the person in the other thread was saying, nothing is completely random if a computer is generating it. It's impossible. There are just so many variables added into the equation that is is difficult to pin down what that equation is.

Sorry for derailment. Won't venture further with this part of the discussion. That is my view on it and if wanting to debate them we'll go to another thread. :P

So to reinterate what I said above and to bring this thread back on track, definately look to getting your hands on PoP meats/parts/toes anyway/where you can. Even tell people who provide you the pieces that they can have any product from the combines just so long as you get the skill ups. You would be surprised the amount of people willing to do that. *smile*

The jaggedpine recipes are also great for skillups if you can get anaconda meat, plant shoots, or griffin meat. The problem is the supply is limited, whereas MTP ingredients are so easy to get a hold of that I still got more points off them.

Can't make staves with baking - you probobly want the fletching forum.

Do Misty thicket picnics if you don't forage and can't do any of the PoP recipes - they've only got 1/4th the combines of HMPs, 1/5th the cost and 1/10th the farmed components. They sell for about 5 times as much in the bazaar and are usefull to about 5 times as many classes as well.
